Cuckoo-Palace German Cuckoo Clock - Summer Meadow Chalet with 8-Day-Movement - 13 1/3 inches Height

I purchased this as a gift for my mother, who has wanted a Cuckoo clock for years. We had a small one when I was growing up and between moving and what not, it just stopped working many years ago. Mom lives with us now, and I wanted to get her something really special. I wanted an authentic, traditional, mechanical clock. There's just something wrong with a cuckoo clock that needs batteries, in my opinion. This clock fills the bill. You can manually silence the cuckoo and chimes for night if you wish with a little pull lever, but we do not use that option. The cuckoo and chimes both have a pleasant, resonant sound. This clock is a gorgeous work of art. The details of the carvings are so wonderfully done, the quality of the work really shines through. We love the chalet theme, as we ourselves live in a log home in the forest, in the mountains of Montana. The woodpile and kindling, the owl, the bunny and the trees are all so charming and the colors of the clock are very rich and pleasing. The clock was a breeze to set up, and the instructions very easy to follow. If the clock runs a little slow or fast, it is easy to adjust; and once adjusted it keeps very good time. It comes with a nice little booklet about the Cuckoo clock tradition, the clock-maker, and a certificate of authenticity, showing that it was made in the Black Forest of Germany. It comes with a DVD as well, but we didn't watch that so I can't speak to what is on it. This clock was worth every single penny. Mom loves it, and so do we.

This is a fully mechanical clock and it's assembly and setup requires some skill, patience and understanding for fine mechanical devices. The instructions need to be followed exactly and any steps that are omitted ore done at the wrong time could damage the fragile movement or cause it to not work at all. I am an experienced craftsman and took my time to set it up and my clock functions perfectly and leaves nothing to be desired. The exterior is beautifully crafted and perfectly proportioned. If you have some skill, patience and understanding, this clock is the best purchase you can make, worth every penny. Note that it will take time to adjust the pendulum to get it to run absolutely on time, but it can be done with patience. Again, this is not some Chinese made electronic gadget that you charge and long press to turn on. This is an exquisite mechanical clock with 7 complications and needs to be respected as such. This was a present from Santa to me and my husband this year; we had enjoyed reading out loud together "The Cuckoo Clock," a fairy tale by one Mrs. Molesworth. Santa had to look quite hard to find a cuckoo clock whose cuckoo sound wasn't a recording -- even much more expensive cuckoo clocks seemed to have the same recording contained by the least expensive clocks, a recording with an echoing cuckoo along with background "stream" sounds. How annoying! The cuckoo sound on this clock is simple, clear, and sweet. Two warnings I would give about this clock are that 1) The chains are so long that one must hang the clock pretty high if one doesn't want the cones to hit the floor; and 2) It really isn't possible to get it to keep time accurately. You just have to resign yourself to resetting it daily or every other day, or just letting the clock run a bit fast or slow. We don't mind that terribly. The clock really is lovely, and a it's marvel to contemplate how it works.

I was a bit worried because I bought this while visiting family in the US and couldn’t actually check to see how the clock performed until I went back to my home overseas. When I finally got home, I hung the clock first thing and was so happy with pretty much every aspect of it. What a beautiful, intricate, well-crafted piece that we are sure to cherish for years to come. The packaging was secure, the setup was easy, and the fine tuning is going pretty fast. The time it keeps is accurate (give or take 1-2 minutes...I’m still playing with the pendulum), it is the perfect volume, and the cuckoo has a rich sounding call. I have not yet tried to turn the sound off or use the night option. I will also note that I did send a message to the seller via the Amazon website and received a response within a few days. I was thankful for that. All in all, I will say that if I knew then what I know now about this clock, I would not for one second hesitate to purchase it. I hope this review helps those looking for a bright and cheery time piece to add to their home.

It's a beautiful looking clock, exactly what I wanted, and a great fit for my home. The clock itself seems to run a minute too fast (ex: cuckoo at 11:59) or a minute too slow (ex: 12:01), and no matter how much I play with the pendulum length, even the slightest bit to account for the subtle inaccuracy, the cuckoo bird never seems to come out exactly at the time I want. After a week of trying to get it to match up to my phone's time, I decided it wasn't that important if the bird came out a bit too early/late. Other than that, I love it. Thank you!

I really like the clock but it was supposed to come with an instruction manual and it didn't. We had to go online to figure out how to get it going.

Absolutely beautiful clock, amazing craftsmanship, amazing cuckoo sound produced by bellows, doesn't get much better than this, cuckoo palace are fantastic..shipped to uk in 5 working days, packaged so well, worth every single penny..if your thinking of buying a cuckoo clock use cuckoo palace. Can't recommend them highly enough !!!!
