Fantastic solution
My teenage daughter was giving me grief about not composting, and I was an easy mark because I already felt guilty about it. But my new house has very little kitchen counter space, and I didn't fancy having a big canister taking up what little spare room I had (I needed a bin with a fair volume because I'm mostly vegetarian so generate a lot of compostable scraps...didn't want to be dumping this thing once a day). I was concerned that the scraps would smell a bit and so I didn't want them right on the counter where I prepare and eat food (or become, as my friend's wife complains, a fruit fly brothel). And most of the ones I saw had a removable lid, so you'd have to use two hands to open, then put the lid somewhere, scrape, then put the lid back on.Finally I just sat down to look at all the offerings available online and decided this looked like the best option. It's been two months now and I've been SUPER pleased. I mounted it to the inside of the cabinet door under my sink and didn't have to give up any storage under there to fit it in. Lost no space on my counter. NEVER smell it except once when I left some juicy stuff in there for over a week. Even if it did get a bit ripe, it's inside a cabinet below the sink, so it'd be contained. I probably fill this thing up once or twice a week, then run it out to the compost pile, dump, give it a rinse and then a quick wipe out with a soapy sponge, and done. The lid's easy to open with one hand, and stays up until you close it. The handle works well. The door on my cupboard is a little thin, so to keep the bracket's mounting screws from coming through the door, I threw a few washers on each screw to act as spacers. In short, VERY pleased and would highly recommend.

The WINNER - Green VS Brown
The WINNER: Zero Waste VS Sure CloseAfter much debate and careful consideration this has every feature needed plus more.Measurements:Exterior: 11" Wide (side to side) by 9.5" tall (top to bottom) by 8.5" front to back.Interior: 10" width (side to side) by 9" deep (top to bottom) by 6.5" front to back. While many communities can use the compostable plastic bags, ours doesn't have the industrial process to handle them (the green liners) - so we do the cheap and easy alternative; wipe the inside with a dab of Carnauba Wax (it's plastic friendly and non toxic) to make the inside slippery non stick surface that rinses right off. EASY to USE, CLEAN and STORE...Quality! well constructed and sooo easy to lift on or off the mounting bracket. Very trustworthy lid stays open when desired. We took the lid off for convenience because it's under the sink anyway and will re-install in warmer weather to prevent insect buffets.-- While we scrutinized all products that are in the 2 gallon range, it came down to this or it's identical big brother the Sure Close,(the only difference is that the > Sure Close is 1/2 inch bigger < . Both are mountable (same bracket) and of the same high quality. The mounting bracket took my wife literally 2 minutes to install and the bucket was hung and ready to go. We chose the Zero Wastedue to it's slightly smaller size, it's been just right for the two of us.

Good size, light weight, keeps out fruit flies so far
I use this for countertop containment of compostable kitchen scraps. My old favorite went out of production, so I'm trying this one. So far so good. I like the wide opening (easy to dump scraps in from the cutting board), the stay-open top, hinged top makes reasonably tight closure, and tiny perforations in the lid allow for air flow but keep out fruit flies (and I am having a fall fruit fly infestation elsewhere in the kitchen right now). I only gave it 3 stars for sturdiness because it is very lightweight, will wait to see how it holds up. It also seems expensive for its weight. However, I do NOT recommend the bags that are shown with this item, they are too small for this unit and very flimsy.

Best compost bin I’ve ever had
The media could not be loaded. We are a household of six and I only have to empty the bin once a week to a week and half. My other compost bins I would use ( large glass pickle jars or gallon size plastic jars) would have a horrific smell upon opening and still have a lingering smell after washing. This bin doesn’t have that issue. I believe the aerated lid helps with that. You are not going to smell anything coming from this bin. Even when you open the lid the smell is very minimal. The compost slides out easily and I clean it with hot, soapy water and a wee bit of bleach. Then I let the bin air dry with the lid open. The lid will hold up on its own which is extremely helpful while preparing food that has vegetables, fruit, eggshells, coffee grinds, etc. We have had the bin for about a month or so. The bin also has a feature where you can attach it to a cabinet door. I do not use this feature, but I may in the future after kitchen renovations have allowed space for that function.

So much better than I expected
I found this on amazon and held it in my cart for well a really long time. Why spend $30 on a bin when I have a $4 bucket on my counter. Well truth be told I just wanted the bucket off my counter. So I finally ordered it one day. It came in and I tried finding reasons to no like it. (I forgot about all the research I had done on this one). Its too big, the handle is bound to get in the way any, excuse to not like it.Then I realize the bucket is the perfect size for my family (our bucket was much smaller and always running out of space), the handle moves in to the perfect spot to be able to dump it and hold on to the bucket. It has little feet on the bottom as to not sit directly on the counter for cross contamination. I could go on and on. It is perfect in everyway, whoever made this put so much thought in to it. I am VERY IMPRESSED.They thought of everything!! What a great product.
