This book explained to me exactly what and precisely who I am. I explains why I felt the way I felt and what do to about it. It taught me to accept that I am not like other people and to just keep taking advantage of that by making art!So, I do that.Thank you, Colin. It's hard to believe you wrote a book this deep at such a young age. But you did, and I thank you. Who knows how many lives you've saved by explaining to people "like us" just why we feel so set apart from most pother people? I cannot even imagine how many. This book is a MUST if you feel like a "misfit" or if you just know that you see the world differently but do not know why. It is not an easy read, but it is worth its weight in gold.If you relate to this review at all, do not hesitate. BUY THIS BOOK AND READ IT. And then, let's make some art and be happy about it for a change. ;)

Whoa
I found it to be a difficult read, and knowing he classic writers would be helpful. I put it down and picked it up a lot, always finding something a little more fascinating. I think it a worthy purchase for a book case, and to have in my library is a great bonus.

It remains an excellent survey of some of the great poets and artists ...
I read this book when I was in high school in the sixties, and it is still one of my top ten. It remains an excellent survey of some of the great poets and artists of the last two hundred years with an important theme.

Coln Wilson's THE OUTSIDER is still a true classic!
While editing a piece of writing for a friend, I was reminded of this unforgettablegreat book, a true classic, and how it explains the alienation of artists, and indeed others.

mortal thought trash of social order crime schemes
Society as a crime committed in common regimentation during apoptotic smirk slump flip regimentation gets examples of cultural individuality that does not want to conform to what had made England a great place to rule for hundreds of years. Hemingway went to Europe to discover how a man can do what must be done and suffer endless consequences of events that freak people out. I enjoy some ideas that spring from prophecy more than the fetish rituals that are easy for groups to observe. What I notice most is endings of free demo solutions to what bugs out. Where there is more desire for something better than people who exist, Nietzsche has some ideas in this book.
