Does it actually type?

No, it does not work as a practical typewriter. Meaning: letters/ink will not transfer onto paper. However, when you strike the keys, when the type bars hit the ribbon panel, it makes an incredibly realistic sound and the carriage shifts. The ribbon spool, carriage return lever, and the typewheel all move. You can also feed paper into the feed roller. It does feel SO CLOSE to being an actual typewriter!

Yes. No printing but the keys do move

What does fustration free packing meant? What is the difference from standard packing?

Basically it's easy to open and unpack... no twist ties to un-twist, no plastic clamshells to cut through, etc. Recyclable packing products too. Some assembly is required though ;-)
