Do you guys find the adjustment feature useful at all? How do you deternmine a right adjustment?

The pins that I am usually crimping have a green band on them for where the crimp should be located. I adjust it in and out depending on male or female pins. Mini deutsch or standard

Does it actually ratchet, and not release until you full crimp or is a free handle?

There’s no quick release, you have to crimp down to release. I didn’t see it being a problem though.
