Killer Christmas

I rated this book 1 & 1/2 stars.After breaking up with her movie star boyfriend, singer Emma Wild goes back home to get away for a little while. And what better place than Hartfield, a small town in Canada? Unfortunately instead of getting away, she ends up in the press again, but not for her music. While ordering a drink at her sister's café, she is approached by a fan and while chatting, they accidentally grab the wrong cups. When the fan drops dead at her feet, Emma realizes that the drink was meant for her. But who would want Emma dead? And why does the detective on the case have to be the one man she's tried so hard to forget?Sometimes you can snag a great book for free. Other times a book is free for a reason....and that reason is that it's just not that good. The latter is where Killer Christmas comes in. A short story, I grabbed this one a few years ago intending on reading it during the holidays and kind of forgot I had it. Now that it's less than a week away from Christmas, I opened my Kindle app and searched for a Christmas themed cozy. Sadly, I'm not sure I would categorize this one as such. Other than it being mentioned that she went home for Christmas, there wasn't anything Christmasy about it. It was also very fast paced. To be expected in a short story of course, yet this one seemed too fast. Things kind of jumped and happened without explanation.As far as the characters, our protagonist, Emma Wild, is a celebrity. I admit that I am not a fan of main characters in books being celebrities, but again, I wanted a Christmas cozy so I went with it. She was also the only developed character....to a fault. The infinite amount of information about her celebrity life was so over the top that she came off as egocentric even though she tried to convince the reader that she wasn't. She was also given way too much credit for either making peoples lives better or destroying them. However, that didn't even come close to being the most annoying person in the book. That honor would go to our great detective, Sterling, who doesn't seem to know anything about police procedure or the law. I know it's just a story, but you have to at least try to make it believable.....and it wasn't.As far as the mystery itself, I knew who the killer was the minute they first appeared. It was that obvious. No real twists or attempts to throw you off. At least not good ones. The whole plot was way too predictable as well as completely unbelievable. The only reason I gave it an additional 1/2 star is because I love, love, love the cover. It's the best thing about it.To sum it up, if you want a good Christmas cozy, keep looking. You won't find it here

When I read a cozy mystery I want to spend a little time in another place/time. I want to get to know and care about the characters. I couldn't do that with this book. It was so rushed and had so little character development I just didn't care! The author can know nothing about police procedure and that was a huge turn off as well. Is there any way I can block this author from ever again appearing in my Amazon recommendations?

I liked this first book, Killer Christmas, in the Emma Wild series. I am looking forward to reading the next one. I see lots of potential for new characters in this small Canadian town. A romantic triangle and a cozy mystery Is a winning combination!

Very interesting read. Fast-paced. The story was very good. I loved this book. I like how I figured out the killer right away. It kinda leaked it a bit but I was very entertained with this book.

Loved this. Hope there will be more coming out.
