How wide is the space between the two screws? Or the minimum collar width for this to work

The space between the two screw is about an inch and one half. We have two 90 lb Labs and the fit nicely on a medium size collar. We put it on in between the collar so it doesn’t get chewed off. Best holder for the air tags yet. The silicone ones last two seconds.

My airtag battery needs to be replaced and the four tiny screws in the front won’t come out. what screw driver do they take? the alan key doesnt work

The air tag is charged when you phone is charged. I have never replaced mine so not sure. But the Allen wrench you put the screws in should unscrew the same unless you stripped the screw? Sorry not much help

Many of the negative reviews show a Backplate problem —it breaks. Has this been fixed in updated version of this product?

I have 6 dogs with these and haven’t had any problems with them breaking.
