Ion Clear Semi Permanent Hair Color Clear

As a former hairdresser, this is my absolute favorite hair color. I never process my hair with harsh chemicals ( permanent colors, bleach etc. ) so when I want extra conditioning and SUPER amazing shine without any damage, this is my go to color. The color advertised is true to description, and the results are as close to perfect as close can be. If you care about the condition and appearance of your hair, this should be your ONLY choice!!

If you're a goth, this isn't likely to be what you want. On my dark brown hair it came out a sort of natural deep brown-black...my own hair color. Oops. That isn't why it lost a star for me though. Even for a semi-permanent color, this washes out pretty quickly. After about 3 washes it looks pretty much gone, at least on brown hair.

This is a great semipermanent color that colors evenly and lasts great on my darker hair, but does fade a little faster from the grey areas (but still much better than others I have tried).

I was trying to find an alternative to Arctic Fox's shade Transylvania, because that product has good color payoff and staying power but a greenish overtone I don't like. I was looking for something that was JUST BLACK with no overtone, or maybe just a purplish or bluish overtone. Coming out of the tube it was dark brown, and after processing 1 hr+ covered, at room temp, on virgin med. brown roots (e.g. nonporous hair), the result was "#1B"-like dark brown. I usually process for at least an hour because I feel like most semi-perm dyes are meant to be used on processed hair, and mine is already coarse, so that's two strikes against color uptake. The color result on the hair was comparable to the smear color of the product. So perhaps, maybe, possibly this is "black" enough for normies who want it to look natural, like an off-black, but if you want your hair LITERALLY F-ING GOTHIC BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK #1 and want to use a semipermanent dye, this ain't it chief. It technically covered my greys, but they're medium brown now. The directions don't specify covered vs. not covered. All it says is do so at room temp. The only pro was that the nozzle and consistency made it easier/less messy to apply vs a tint brush. It was easy to rinse out and didn't make a huge mess.

I love the color. You can see a cast of blue. It’s a little intense but I expected that. Very nice coverage. I don’t have a lot of gray, just a small patch in back and some random grays that silhouette. This covered the patch and left my hair conditioned with a lot of body. I love the no mix tube and the fragrance is soft and pleasing. I left it on the full 25 minutes with a cap, no heat. I can’t say how long it will last but I anticipate it will get me through at least 8 washings.
