Luggage never disappoints us at a convenient time. The I flew home from a Japan shopping trip, the carrying handle broke on my suitcase. I’ve gotten good use out of it but there’s nothing else wrong with it other than the fact that I can’t pick it up after the handle completely broke off. I didn’t know if it was something that could be repaired but I did some research and ordered some parts and this one worked perfectly! It was easy to replace (no instructions included, but also not needed). The one note I will give to anyone who needs to do this is the handles aren’t universal. You’ll need to take measurements of the two end prices to make sure it fits the cut hole in your suitcase and the space between the two holes to make sure you order the right size. I learned the hard way. But once I got it right and ordered the correct piece, it worked like a charm and I’m super grateful that I didn’t have to throw out an otherwise perfectly good suitcase.

I tried going through TUMI to get my Tech luggage repaired. It was purchased in 2014 and I had the large, middle and carry on bag in the same color. Absolutely nothing wrong with the luggage other than the side and top strap snapped like a twig in December. My bag was sitting outside for less than 15 minutes while we were waiting for Uber to take us to the airport. Temperature was about 32 degrees so not ridiculously cold. TUMI did not charge me for shipping either way. I measured the part and then i noticed that someone had already used the strap. At first I didn't even think I was going to use the bottom connecting part. After installing it that way, ti noticed he connection at bottom of strap was not quite flush. I can save everyone some time, go ahead and pry out the factory bottom piece that was glued to inside. That piece inside mine was white. The factory white piece was a little bit thicker and that made it so it didn't fit flush.

Tumi no longer has handles to repair broken carry handles for some Tumi Tech carry-on styles. This product is an exact and easy replacement. (Check measurements to be sure. I eye-balled mine before ordering. It worked great!) You need one medium phillips-head screwdriver and about ten minutes. (Unzip backing material to expose the connection. Remove velvet protective tape from screw heads. Unscrew four screws. Pop out old handle assembly using the screwdriver and your hand. Snap in new handle assembly. Reinstall four screws. Reinstall velvet protective tape -- or use duct tape if you destroyed the velvet tape. Zip making material closed. Do the Happy Dance.)

IT WORKS

Bought a couple of hard case carry-ons from Costco several years ago. Handle broke off one, checked the measurements and ordered this one. This replacement fit perfectly! Went on a trip and the handle broke off the other one as well. Got a second handle that fit perfectly as well, but interestingly, slightly different shape and different screws. Happy with the purchase. A little pricey considering I probably didn’t spend more than $40 on each carry-on and the handle was a little more than $10, but at least the suitcase can stay out of the landfill a little longer. Hopefully these handles last a lot longer than the originals!
