FanTASTIC option for beginners!
I REALLY love this practice mute! I am a beginner, and I have been trying out a rubber coated metal mute for the past few weeks. Problem was, it was so damn tall, that it made it really hard to see the place where I needed to place my bow. This metal mute is a lot shorter, so I can see over it WAY better! It also does a really great job of reducing the volume of the sound without making it sound different. Its quiet enough, so my husband (who is working from home right now) doesn’t run away screaming until I learn all of the proper notes, and better bow control. It also seems to grip on pretty well, maybe even better than my rubber coated metal one. I’d suggest that you just don’t turn your violin sideways, or move the violin around violently, just in case. ;)

Works great!
Daughter in college dorms loves this! She can practice her violin without disturbing those around her. Works great!

It does mute
This is my first metal mute so I don’t have anything to compare to. But my biggest concern is the fit on the bridge. It doesn’t have the natural slant like the bridge itself so it sits very awkward and loose. It does mute the sound very well especially in comparison to my rubber mute. But it seems to mess with the sound of the strings. I am still at the beginning stage of my violin playing so it could be a technique problem for me. But I wanted to add that detail just in case.

Doesn’t fit
While this mutes better than my rubber practice mute, it doesn’t fit on my bridge very well. I’m constantly making sure it won’t fall and scratch my violin. When I press it down more to secure it, it scratches my bridge. Also, it creates a buzzing sound when I play, so I unfortunately can’t recommend this product.

Fits violin and viola!
I had absolutely no problem fitting this on my 4/4 violin and my 15 1/2 inch viola. It sits on top of both bridges without any problem, and it’s quite secure, no issues with it falling off at all. I actually like this tone a lot better than the rubber covered metal mute. It also mutes far better than the regular solid rubber ones. Highly recommend this, at least give it a try, you can always send it back if it doesn’t fit. I was worried it wouldn’t fit, happy I tried this!

This is fantastic! For a beginner violin player my family really appreciates this! I also appreciate it as hearing my loud mess ups and squeaking would be a huge deterrent to play. I also like to practice very early in the morning and I have yet to disturb anyone. It's a very nice mute. I will say, it's not supposed to fit all the way down on the bridge, it sits pretty high up. Be careful about setting your violin down with this on it, because it can fall off. It's not the most stable when moving the instrument around. When you're playing it's perfectly fine though. I would definitely recommend this! Very efficient muting and the muted sound is actually quite nice.

Doesn't fully fit on bridge
I have the same problem as some of the photos where the mute doesn't fully fit over my bridge. I have a full size violin. It does sit on top of my bridge and mute the sound, but I have to be cautious when playing. Will be purchasing a different mute.

Useless, too thin to fit with with my bridge
