Don't need to carry a loup in my pocket.
I repair I.T. equipment for a living, so I often have to read serial numbers off the back of laptops, Chromebooks, and other gear. The manufacturer's labels are printed very small and are often damaged and worn over time. My point is that I need something at my work desk to read these things easier and I wasn't interested in a little loupe that might be easy to misplace. Anyway, I ordered this item and it showed up on my door step two days later. I popped three AAA batteries in it and WOW! Gotta say I spent some time looking at my wristwatch closer than I'd ever seen it before. I was so impressed, that I ordered a second magnifier to keep at home and a third for my work partner. Love this thing and the price was right.

Good magnifier!
With the recent bedbug explosion and my older age,I needed something stronger than the everyday magnifying glasses. This is great! If there is something small I need to see, bingo, this will work. And the light on it is a plus too.Of course it would not be good for long term reading. If you jiggle it,it goes in and out of focus but that's because of it's excellent strength.Short of a microscope this an excellent buy.I will treasure and keep this for many years.

Works extremely well
The lens quality is less than perfect, resulting in distortion at the higher magnification, but as a convenient hand-held device for checking things too small for the naked eye, its design is perfect.

very tiny
really small, so pay attention to the measurements (if they have them in the description, didn't notice). bought this for my mother who has macular degeneration, and can read a little with enough magnification, but it was useless for her. OK for me to use with really tiny print or something else small. Not necessariy good for reading though. My guess is it needs to be so small to get such high magnification

You Get What You Pay For
Pros: Very inexpensive, light weight, decent construction, strong LED lights.Cons: Very small viewing area, not suitable for reading, or general use, though I would guess that's not why most people will buy this. It's really only good for occasional viewing of very tiny objects. you would probably not want to have to look through this thing for more than a few seconds without a break. Cheap non-aspheric lens design means unless you're viewing through the very center of the lens, and VERY close to the subject, the image will blur. As other buyers have already said, the on off switch on the light seems very cheaply made.Because this magnifying glass does not have an aspheric lens, you can only use a tiny spot in the center of the lens to view parts of very small objects clearly. An aspheric lens (also called 'corrective curve') flattens slightly as it approaches the edges, so you can use most of the lens for viewing, rather than that tiny spot in the middle. Almost all modern eyeglass utilize aspheric lenses so wearers can use more of the lens to see clearly through. If you want to use a magnifyer to read Rx bottles and other small print, you'd be much better off with a lower power lighted magnifyer, 10X maximum for general use. I use a 4X magnifying glass for this purpose and it works fine for that for me. For general use, 40X is way too much magnification. But keep in mind that a good quality magnifyer with an aspheric lens will set you back a LOT more than this one will. At least ten times as much.I chalk this one up to the old saying -- you (usually) get what you pay for.Unless you only need high magnification on a tiny portion of what you're viewing, this magnifyer probably won't work well for you.

great little magnifier with case awesome price
nifty gadget ..... not sure it is 40 x but it was strong enough for me to check my dogs ear gunk to make sure there were no mites in there. For the price it is really a neat addition and I love that it has a case.the light is probably not necessary but you can turn it on or off. I felt it worked best in natural light. I am glad I bought this and would recommend it.

cheap junk
I put brand new batteries it when I received it, light did not work. I doubt it's a 40x magnification, things look the same as a 10x power magnifying glass I already have.It was inexpensive, the only positive thing I can say about it other than fast delivery with prime.

Good tool
It's amazing what you can see with this little guy. Fits in a pocket, goes anywhere. I would have loved this as a kid - better than a magnifying glass because the light is where you need it to be. I used it to see if my tricomes had turned from clear to cloudy. It was very cool to watch.
