Woooooo! Great and bright light!
Who turned the lights on! Man, this hot little baby is bright, has great battery time, the flashing can be seen from miles away, very easy to use it. There's only a couple of buttons you'll figure them out, installation is a snap, literally, it will enhance the safety of any bicycle or even while you're walking at night… Great size too not big like some of the less expensive ones.

Great Value for Bright Tail Light
*** Updated July 9 2017 *** My cycling friends and I recommend this light to our friends. I've cycled behind riders who were using this light, which is how I made up my mind to buy one => VERY BRIGHT. The unit is small like a typical Planet Bike rear light but very visible in the daytime sunlight, where Planet Bike is good for shaded areas and at dusk/night -- I do not plan to use this light at dusk/night, but I assume the intensity could be turned down enough (I'll use my Planet Bike light at dusk/night). The clip on the light allows me to use it on my saddle bag and therefore any bike, but on my serious, non-beater bike I use the chain stay mount (not enough room on *my* seat tube to mount it). I attached the mount to the chain stay using a rubber sleeve; it does not move -- *** July 9 2017 Update ***: I tried it without the rubber sleeve and it DOES move. I have one friend who does not like bright lights to be used in a pace-line. So I placed the chain stay mount as low as possible to minimize flashing in the eyes of the pace-line rider behind me. I find the USB charging port to be easy to use, but I do have to use care when opening and closing it as well as inserting and pulling out the charger cable. I've ridden 4+ hour rides with the light in a flashing mode and have NOT had any issues with it being completely discharged before the end of the ride. I have yet to ride a century (~6 hrs.) with it. Perhaps when I do I will remember to update this review. *** July 9 2017 Update ***: I rode a Century today, just under 6 hours with the light in the flashing mode the whole way -- no problems. I don't need all the flashing options but it is easy to cycle through them to the ones I want. I like the option of a steady light with a flash because it helps, so I've read, motorists judge the distance between the motorist and the cyclist - I have not used it yet until I get a better handle on the battery life on my rides (typically I ride 30-60 miles on any given ride). I have not used the button which adjusts the flash rate, as it is not very useful to me -- the default rates are fine. At $42 this light is not expensive. Don't hesitate to buy one -- no disappointments here. *** August 5 Update *** An automobile driver asked me about my taillight because he could see it so far away in bright daylight

Worthy addition to a great line of lights
I bought my first Cygolite Hotspot shortly after they were first introduced in 2012. It had received multiple "Best Taillight" awards and it was, at the time, the best taillight under $50. Each year, Cygolite has released an improved version. This is the latest in that evolution. Let's start with what you get. You get a 150 lumen (max) spot tail light with adjustable brightness in solid mode, and adjustable speed in flashing modes. The light pattern is a fairly tight spot but, unlike earlier models, this one has a different lens that throws some of that beam out the side. So although you still need to mount the light carefully so the spot is level with the ground, it is more visible from the side. You also get a micro usb cable (prior models were mini usb), a seat stay mount and a saddle post mount. You only get one set of screws so you have to find extra screws if you want to use both mounts for some reason. Note the seat stay mount is not compatible with rear disk brakes because the cable gets in the way. It may be OK in countries that drive on the left. The whole lot comes in a reusable box, which is convenient. The light has several modes. Solid (with variable brightness - perfect for astronomers), wave (slowly goes from bright to dim and back), triple flash with background light, fast triple flash, fast flash, alternating bright/dim flash. The triple flash with background is a new feature. I've had this on front lights for a while, but I've not seen it on a tail light before. Research shows that although a flashing light is easier to see, it is difficult to judge distance. Apparently a flashing light combined with a solid light is easy to see and easy to judge the distance to. Another nice feature is a low battery indicator. When you turn the light on or off when the battery is low, the light will flicker. Of course, this doesn't help while you're riding but it's better than nothing. My original Hotspot is still running fine. I'm still getting more than 24 hour run times in flashing mode from a single charge and it's still daylight visible. It's so bright that riders behind me at night ask me to switch it to solid mode. If the new ones are just as good even with all the new features, I will be very happy with them.

Good, not perfect, but still a really nice. Extremely bright.
I bought this light as it's one of the brightest daylight visible lights available. In that function is pretty damn good. The two brightest modes are highly visible even in bright sunlight. I also really like the ability to adjust the flash/blink rate. It's a little fiddly to do so, but once you've set it, you probably won't be adjusting it frequently. The variety of modes is great. Side visibility is also good due to the translucent body. As far as things I don't love. There is no low battery warning unlike the Cygolite Hotrod front light that I have. The battery life on the daylight visible modes i feel is a little on the low side. I haven't done an exact test, but it does not last as long as the Hot Rod front light I run all the time too. It's also brighter and your choice of blink rate and pattern will affect this as well so you can't fault it too much. The final thing I've encountered is something others have mentioned which is water "resistance". I've only been caught out in the rain with the light once. It was hard shower, but luckily only lasted a half hour or so. The roads were wet enough that the light also got soaked from spray the whole right (bout an hour and half). The light doesn't seem to have been affected long term, but there was visible water in the body of the light. This concerned me. I didn't hook it up to the charger until the light had dried out. The cover was on, but it doesn't fit super tight. I can't say whether this water penetrated the cap or managed to get in through the lens housing or seem in the body. No part of this light is very well sealed. That is my biggest concern with this light is durability in wet weather. The mount is ok and I like that it comes with both seat post (round) and seat stay mounts. The on-light integrated clip is not the greatest. I would not trust it just clipped to a pack or clothes, but that is not my use for this light anyway and it fits solidly in the bike mount.

Powerful automotive warning light
Over nine years ago I purchased the cygolite head and tail light system. I found these lights to be the best that I have ever used. Unfortunately, I had noticed for a few months that the hotshot tail light was starting to show its age in that it was taking longer and longer to charge. Recently, after not riding for a few weeks, it failed to go on as I was getting ready to take a ride. After riding for so many years with that 'protective beacon' covering my back I actually started to feel a bit vulnerable and decided it was definitely time to order a new one. Also, upon closer examination, I noticed that on the lower part of the light the plastic was cracking off on the edges. I do not in any way fault cygolite for this issue as everything wears out over time. The new 150 watt arrived yesterday and I am impressed with the power and the improvement in design of my original tail light. If I was asked the question nine years ago - "Would you buy this light again if it wore out over time?" my answer, based upon my satisfaction over the years, would have to be absolutely yes because that is just what I did!

A nice, functional and reliable tail light
I'm very happy with the Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 tail light. It does the job well, has worked reliably, is highly functional with multiple of flashing & steady settings, it's small, lightweight and reasonably priced. Mine was in regular use of about three times per week, for four years. I just purchased a new unit to to replace the first one that was lost on a ride because I had neglected to lock it in place properly on the mounting bracket with the usual 'click' after charging it inside the house. I was in a hurry to get out on a late afternoon ride before the temperature dropped and became uncomfortably cold, didn't feel or hear the usual 'click', nor did I check that it was properly seated before heading out. Heed the old saying: "Haste makes waste".

Amazingly bright, lots of modes, lots of rides per charge
I got this for my partner's bike. Her old light was a bit on the dim side and, because we tend to ride in a rural area with lots of curvy roads, I wanted her to be seen, really seen, as soon as possible as drivers zoom along. Mission accomplished! In the brightest flasher modes this light looks like a flashing railroad flare (remember those?) on the back of her bike - easily visible under a wide range of conditions. The true test for me was following her in my car, driving into the setting sun, and gauging how well she stood out from all the glare. The light proved itself in this and every other test we did - we're putting them on all of our road bikes and are feeling a little more comfortable that we will be seen. I have had none of the issues described in earlier reviews - the light was easy to install and the bracket is secure and has not released the light even when we've gone gravel trail hunting on our road bikes. I recommend this to anyone wanting a BRIGHT taillight for their bike.

Excellent light, great power and illumination!
Really nice light, easy to detach from bracket - important to me as I commute to work and need to take light on and off every day. Also easy to charge and currently testing maximum use time.

Great light, does what it says, on the Box
Great light clearly visible, long usage between recharge, easily removed from bracket. More than satisfied. Bought this one for my cycle buddy.

It's bright, It's adjustable and has decent battery life
This was a second one for my wife's bike. I have one that I have been using for about 6 years and it works well. It has many useful modes, it has adjustable brightness and flash speed settings and the daytime flash is eye-catching. I haven't actually determined a battery life in hours but I usually charge them after 20 to 30 hrs of use in daytime strobe mode.
