After trying 3 of the Startech adapters trying to sort and issue and finding the root cause is most likely a Microsoft issue, I'm updating my reviews.The issue I was trying to solve was connecting 3 monitors to a Evga GTX 760 graphics card with on of them going through a VGA KVM. Problem is once you install the drivers the VGA / analog signal is turned off when a digital (HDMI and/or DVI-D) monitor is connected. So you must use some sort of digital to analog converter. Windows looks at the signal from your monitor to decide what can be displayed and evidently to enforce HDCP does checks for monitor changes regularly. So unless the KVM fakes a signal to all PCs connected to it Windows will reconfigure (scramble) ALL your windows when you switch to another PC. As far as I can tell almost no KVMs do this correctly but if you have and older graphics card it might not do the polling either so you will not notice. If you are looking for an adapter to hook your late model computer to your KVM I'm sorry to say you are probably looking at a lost cause. I finally found this post [...] which outlines the issue.Now the reviews:This is for my main 27 inch display on my main computer which I'm on most of the day doing programming and video editing so it has to be very legible. All the adapters all are simple to install and come in easy to open, all cardboard, packaging that fits nicely without a lot of extra inserts or wrappers.I started with the StarTech.com DVI2VGAE worked great. Nice clear picture till I switched the KVM. Which I know now means it was working correctly but did not solve my problem.Next I tired the HD2VGAE2 which does not have the KVM problem but it lacks the crisp video conversion of the DVI2VGAE making it for me too blurry to use as my main screen at 1920x1080 resolution.It might be OK for the less demanding though.So I tried the HD2VGAA2 thinking it might get me the best of both worlds since it was powered like the DVI2VGAE. But the KVM problem was back. Picture is almost as good as the DVI2VGAE though. Definitely usable as a programmer's main display.So I would say go with DVI2VGAE if you have the option of DVI-D but HD2VGAA2 if HDMI is your only port.

It did everything i needed but died when it reached the 2 year mark. Maybe some would consider that a long life. Unfortunately buying a new one every 2 years is not for me.

I have a ViewSonic projector which only has vga ports - my laptop only has HDMI output. I purchased less expensive adapters, which did not work. Thought I'd save $15 on an adapter and it was nothing but frustration. This one works exactly as expected right out of the box. Maybe you have extra time on your hands, maybe you like frustration with digital items. If you don't have time and don't like frustration, this is what you're looking for.

For a couple of years have struggled using cheaper adaptors. The signal kept dropping out. Highly distracting. This Star Tech HDMI to VGA adaptor is about three-times more expensive than the cheapo adaptors, but it works great and all the time. Saved me from buying a new projector and running HDMI cabling through the ceiling.

I purchased a new laptop that came without an VGA port. I didn't think much about that until I went to use it on a monitor that lacks an HDMI port. When the product came I plugged it in and it worked perfectly on my home monitor, which has both VGA and HDMI inputs. I have a second residence and when I plugged the adapter into that monitor, it exceeded the limits of the horizontal and vertical controls. I tried everything I could think of, and nothing worked. Some of the icons were outside the limits of the screen, and the screen adjustments could not compensate. I sent an email to the vendor, which took a few days to respond. In the meantime, I happened to right-click the screen, and discovered that I could adjust the aspect ratio, which fixed the problem. When the vendor responded, it was with suggestions that would not have fixed the problem, but meanwhile, things are working fine.

I have a Dell Inspiron 14z laptop with a 19" Dell monitor. The monitor has only a VGA connection, the laptop doesn't. I had originally bought a VGA to mini display port adapter which worked great until the port (on the pc) somehow got damaged and would not accept the adapter.So, deciding to connect to the pc's HDMI port I bought the Etekcity 1080P adapter which seemed from the description to be made for the purpose and (maybe this should have been a warning sign!) was quite inexpensive.Anyway to make a long story short, it fit fine, but nothing I tried would get it to work. I returned it to Amazon (great customer service!) and ordered the "StarTech.com HD2VGAE2 HDMI to VGA Converter" which arrived in two days(I highly recommend Prime), plugged right in, and worked like a champ form the get-go.As a side light, before ordering from Amazon I had gone with my problem to the local Best Buy and Radio Shack stores, hoping for a quick fix adapter and was told in both cases that no such thing existed or that if it did it would be 'very expensive.'

A real pleasure to buy something that works first time, as advertised and without problem. This is connecting my Mac Mini to a VGA-only screen, freeing up the Thunderbolt port to connect a UAD audio interface. Admittedly I lose a USB port to supply power to for the cable but that's a small price to pay for something that works on Mac kit.

These work perfectly well if your laptop doesn't move around and the connection remains in exactly the same place, however, we find (at work, in a school) that the VGA connection becomes loose after a while.We do replace them as and when they finally fail but are looking for a more robust alternative.That said, the sound and picture quality are excellent.

Have used this for the last 6 months on a 6 screen set up and it's still going strong.

I connected this to a new high spec Lenovo laptop. Text & pictures displayed via the adapter are too fuzzy to work with comfortably. I tried using it on another laptop. Same thing - where the adapter went, the problem went. The monitor was fine when used without the adapter. I can't recommend it.
