I wouldn't try hooking it up with an adapter but could you plug it into a surge protector ?

the unit draws 11 amps, probably when the heater is on high. Led lights don't draw much juice.The motor that turns the lights to create the flame effect is "probably" not all that hefty. Most home circuit breakers are 20 amps per branch. Wouldn't put it on a circuit that has a lot of stuff already on the same branch. If the surge protector can handle the 11 amp draw shouldn't be a problem. I'm not an electrician. I did notice one other thing, the cord for the unit seems like your usual lamp gauge cord...just saying. The logs look great!

how many square feet will it heat?

According to the manufacturer this is designed to heat 400 square foot.

Can this be used in a non vented fire place?

Yes. No vent needed! Just plug it in and it's a pretty fire with some nice heat!

is the length 19 inches? must be 20inches or less..

If you are referring to the longest side, it is 23 3/4." That would measure the front facing width if you are standing in front of it.
