The best scanner I’ve found that does what it’s supposed to do.

it works OK but my ancient one was better
REVISION My old one (20+ years of use) abruptly died. After some research I settled on this one. Display matched my old one. The good. Easy to use. The pencil marking thing is pretty handy. I use it regularly. The not so good. This thing is jointed and spring-loaded. You activate it by pressing it into the wall against that spring pressure. That gets tiring after a while when you're balanced on a ladder doing high work. Also in the meh category, this thing has a hard time deciding where the center of a stud is. My old one would tell you and be dead-on. This one waffles around and I often have to sweep it in from both right and left sides to ensure it is not lying to me. Using the regular stud depth is useless. If you follow the instructions and activate the deep-stud (which is a pain) it is more accurate but still likes to hem and haw. I'll keep it but if I had to do it over I would look more into one of their other ones.

Not detecting correctly
Very disappointed in how I received the package, it came in an Amazon box wrapped in bubble wrap that's it. No product box? Just throw it in an Amazon box with a little piece of bubble wrap? And the product isn't working correctly

Disappointing Accuracy
The Zircon MultiScanner 740 is a nice instrument with easy to adjust modes and an easy to read screen. It finds traditionally placed wall studs, headers and base through regular ½” dry wall with good accuracy and stop there because that is the best the Zircon 740 MultiScanner can do. I’m remodeling a small house and purchased the multi scanner when my other scanner of 23 years simply stopped working. Sigh. In the bathroom shower area, with a wall partially removed, I was able to view studs, water supply and 14g electrical wire; placing the 740 on top of ceramic tile, the scanner would not pick up a wall stud, the hot or cold copper supply lines or the electric feed to the ceiling light. Move to another home and retest the scanner, this time in a kitchen. The 740 easily found studs through the drywall but did not locate any studs along the tiled backsplash in either the stud mode or deep scan mode. It did not locate the back iron pipe for the range gas line nor the water supply lines. Lastly, I found zero live wires. The Zircon 740 is good at one thing, finding studs through ½” dry wall. There are many stud finders that are priced significantly less than the $68.00 for the Zircon 740. Overall, the Zircon 740 MultiScanner is seriously disappointing.

You get what you pay for, doesn't apply.
The cheaper $30 stud finders work better than this one. Don't waste your money.
