Photoshop CS6 For Dummies

I bought this in the Kindle version and it is just what I needed
I bought PSCS-6 and found that it has many features I was not familiar with so I thought I would try this "For Dummies" book. I am so tired of having so many books taking up so much space in my home office so I bought the Kindle Fire version of this book. Photoshop is a very powerful and complex application that the average person can get lost and frustrated with very quickly. This book does not offer a really deep drill down of all the features of the application but it does do exactly what I needed and what was promised by the author. It gives enough of an explanation about the features that I was able to get to the feature and use it, test it, and work with it enough that I now feel comfortable using it. If you are a CS-5 user this is the ideal book for you and if you are new Photoshop user this is a good book for you. If you are someone that wants all the nitty gritty details of how to use all the features of the application then this book is not for you.I learned a lot of things I was unaware of while looking for the things I was really interested in knowing, which was really a plus. I recommend this book for he reasons stated above.Incidentally, Photoshop CS6 is very expensive and in my estimation well worth it. If you are a student, teacher or a person upgrading from CS5 then look for the discounted price. Also I use Adobe Light Room far more than I use Photoshop so if you are on a budget consider Light Room as a fist choice. I would buy a book to learn about those features as well. Light Room is a very powerful application that you will love whether you are a professional or a point and shooter.

Buyer Beware
I believe this is a non-authorized version of this book. If you look elsewhere, you will find the exact same kindle book published by "For Dummies" for around five dollars more which was published in 2012 when the book actually came out. This one is published by "John Wiley", not "For Dummies" Publishing and it was published in 2013. I inadvertently purchased this book and realized something was wrong when the formatting was really bad and unprofessional and it was missing a lot of the icons and pictures. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Look for the other one that is official. I reported this to Amazon and hopefully they will remove it soon.

Way too advanced for Dummies
This book is driving me crazy and if it was in hard copy and not on my Kindle I'd throw it down the stairs.I wanted something really simple. Like embarrassingly simple. Like step-by-step simple. Like "turn on your computer, then click twice with your mouse to open the Adobe program, now let's sit and look and what we find on our screen" kind of simple. This is not that book. Right from jump, the author is into too much detail; there's too much jargon and he's trying to appeal to too many audiences by sticking in all these little boxes and side bars with tips for more advanced users which just have the effect of cluttering up the screen (as I said, I'm reading this on my Kindle) and making my head swim even more. Throwing in a lot of jokes and cutesy chapter titles ("Ordering from the menus", "How many pixels can dance on the head of a pin") does not make a book a better teaching tool. Maybe the giddy tone is in there to make the book more "user friendly" but if you're not getting the help you need, the stand up comic bit just becomes annoying. All of this I would have forgiven, however, if he'd included an index. That way I could have ignored all the verbiage about "vectors" and "creative suites" and "rasters" and just looked up, say, "Clone stamp tool" every time I have trouble with the clone stamp tool which is always. He says there's an index in here somewhere but I have yet to find it.Is it so hard to write a decent manual for Photoshop CS6??

Great for beginners.
I purchased this book on amazon after finding it for 30$ at Barnes and Noble. As of right now Photoshop CS6 is the newest model of Photoshop. What is Photoshop? Photoshop is a computer software that lets you edit photos that you have taken. You can also create new things like logos etc.. This book by the way does not contain the software.... It is just a guide. This book shows you how to start to use Photoshop. It also explains to you what you are actually doing to a photo when for instance you are changing the Saturation. If you are just starting out on Photoshop or need to learn how to really guide yourself on it this book would be great. However, if you can already change things like the contrast or re size and image then I would suggest a more advanced book.

Dummies Photoshop cs6
I liked the book but some items I found a little hard to understand. It could be me. I bought the book so that I could learn more about using the oil paint section Page 310 which is very helpful for me. I think as I read the book more my understanding of Adobe cs6 will improve. I highly recommend the book for the new learner.

Good Coverage of PhotoShop Text, Vector Graphics and Artwork
Peter Bauer has done good job covering the sections of text and vector graphics in Photoshop.Since I'm not currently interested in Photography, I didn't read the first part of the book. The following chapters were excellent:Chapter 11 "Precision Edges with Vector Paths."Chapter 12 "Dressing Up Layer Styles."Chapter 13 "Giving Your Images a Text Message."Chapter 14 "Painting in PhotoShop."I also bought a new book but not straight from Amazon to get a better price. I have been impressed with how well the Dummie's books cover the topics and are slightly less costly to the consumer.

Once again, the For Dummies delivers
Too often, manuals just keep repeating the same tech term over and over, as if by repetition, you'll suddenly understand what it means. What I like about the "For dummies" is that it's in plain language, with a dollop of good humor. It also shows more than one way to achieve the same result, giving you options. I do recommend it for anyone who has CS6 and has only been using it mostly for just cropping, and leveling, and even if you're familiar with it, it will give you some new insights and methods of doing things.

Reference book rather than a tutorial
I purchased this book expecting it to take me through Photoshop step by step to complete tasks, starting with the basics. I was disappointed to find that this is not the case and it talks more generally about the different features the software has to offer. As a complete beginner to Photoshop I automatically reached out for this due to previous positive experiences, however quickly returned the item as it was not as described and assumes a reasonable amount of prior knowledge of the system. I would not recommend this book if you are new to Photoshop.

A reference book primarily
Page 5 of this book states 'This is a reference book, not a lesson-based workbook or a tips-and-tricks cookbook. To my mind, this book does not actually show you how to do things in any sort of order. I mean it doesn't go through the stages of doing anything, and it really is what the book states; a reference book. But it also isn't a very good reference book - it has less than 400 pages of information, compared, for example, to Martin Evening's book which has over 700 pages, and is also much better as a reference book, as well as actual examples. The illustrations in the dummies book as sparse, small, and very often hard to read. I have returned the book as it is not a book for beginners to learn how to use photoshop tools

Great guide
I like this publication. It is easily understood and contains a wealth of useful information, just as I anticipated. If you are an avid Photoshop enthusiast, this book will help you to figure out some of the amazing things this software can produce.

A lot of do about nothing.
I was expecting a step by step type of guide - perhaps listing the various tabs that appear in Photoshop and what they do. Disappointed. Is there a Dummies guide to the Dummies guide? Nope, didn't think so.The way this "guide" is written reminds me of my previous boss, he could talk a whole lot without actually telling you very much.
