The Barbarian's Captive (Primarian Mates)

Maddie is a new author for me. I have to admit that I almost didn't buy this book because of some if the negative reviews. I'm so glad I bought it anyway! This book may be a bit difficult for some to read because in essence the heroine was kidnapped and held against her will. This was demoralizing and at times humiliating. I'm sure the heroine (Eva) felt even worse because although she was held against her will, she still desired the hero (Kerr). The story is erotic and includes spankings and whipping. This is done as punishment when the women don't listen to their 'mates'. No skin is ever broken and the women are always comforted after the punishment. But if the woman begins to enjoy the spankings is it still considered punishment? I felt the plot was well thought out and good. The characters were well defined and individual. Scene descriptions were excellent - they were detailed without becoming boring and repetitive. I would recommend reading this if you're a sci-fi romance junky like me! I would not recommend it if you have concerns with kidnapping and/or women being held against their will. None of the women were forced to have sex however they were coerced...a lot...very persuasively! ;) I'll definitely be reading more from this author! I'm also hoping that Maddie comes out with a sequel to this one! I'm very curious about General Treke and his new earth mate Lana!

I hate to say it, but after I read a few more books, this one, with so many others, will remain unmemorable. Don't misunderstand--it was written well enough and I like the author's voice and the story on a whole, but I guess, there are just too many repetitive stories like this one out there. The usual plot: Women scientists from Earth get lured onto a planet where there are only men inhabitants and very few women and --surprise!--the planet they happen to land on needs women or their race will die out. The men are super gorgeous, run around in loin cloths when they're hunting, but also have advanced weaponry, technology, spaceships...This planet is male dominated, the alphas rule and are the top class--and women are submissive and get spankings when they are out of line. This is when the story sort of loses in points...spankings? My mind had to adjust, and sadly I realized, as I turned the pages that the plot and characters just dropped down a notch into silly story category and that the story would be reduced to just another chest pounding "I am your master and you are my woman' kind of recount. Eva is a scientist, a lieutenant on her ship of fellow female scientists and warriors. These women are on a mission to save Earth. When she gets abducted on the alpha planet, she is immediately probed--and the probe scene feels humiliating as I am sure the author intended for it to be. When the probe proves that Eva is sexually compatible with the alpha examining her so intimately and who also was the one who captured her, she has sex with her "mate for the rest of eternity" alpha. From thereon, she is made to wear silk gowns with no underwear and is often spanked as she breaks rule after rule in her new home, sometimes for speaking out of turn and just voicing an opinion. Ugh. I hated the way Eva succumbs and starts portraying "bimbo-esque" characteristics when alpha man just gazes at her with his mesmerizing eyes. The insta-orgasm thing is getting old, as is calling your lover "Mate" every five minutes. When sex clouds all reason and an educated woman of the future allows her "mate" to be overbearing, I know not to take the story too seriously. Within two weeks Eva didn't want to leave the planet anymore and save Earth and even becomes a loud advocate for the alpha dominated planet. Huh? So, if you're looking for a sexy read where women actually enjoy getting punished by being spanked, this is not bad... I've read worse...at least the men doing the spanking are easy on the eyes.

Scientist Eva La Croix is captured along with several of her colleagues when they are on a new planet, trying to see if it would be habitable for the people who live on the dying Earth. Maxx Kerr and a group of his people are on the same planet, hunting wild game. When Maxx Kerr and his men spot Eva and her colleagues, they purse them, wanting to know where these beautiful aliens are from. When tests show that Eva and all of her colleagues are very compatible to Kerr and the almost all male population of Primaria, the men let out a cry of cheer as they each pick one beautiful woman to be mated to. Maxx Kerr, chooses Eva. He claims her and then shows her just how hot it is to have a strong, dominant male guiding her, and punishing her when she breaks the rules. But, when Eva has a chance to leave, she has to decide, will she stay with the barbarian who captured her or leave him and all the pleasure that he has to offer her. This story was amazing! I'm a sucker for a good Sci-Fi story and Ms. Taylor definitely delivered with this one. The amount of detail that went into the story, really made me feel like I was transported to an entirely new planet from page one. The characters were HOT! Well, specifically, Maxx Kerr and his group of barbarians. The way that Ms. Taylor wrote Kerr with his long, black hair, and his incredibly muscular arms, and the way that he dominated Eva (which she enjoyed), everything was so HOT!!! The ending! I won't give it away, but oh, I do love when justice is served! ;-) This book was fantastic and I seriously cannot wait for Ms. Taylor to write the sequel!!

Maddie Taylor is a new author for me, this being the first book of hers that I have read. I totally enjoyed the storyline. Captured and held captive by an alien people on their planet world. MEN RULE.... I could understand Eva's feelings and having to bend to Kerr's demand that she submit, and do as she is told, how she must behave as well as when to speak for the most part. Yea, I know it's a different planet with a different way of life... In my mind I kept saying nope... not my planet, not my rules. Being respectful when on a new world, absolutely. To be taken as a mate by an alien you don't know anything about? I rode the rollar coaster with Eva and Kerr in their story. This is an AWESOME read. The story itself was fleshed out and you sort of felt you were there. The world building was pretty good too. I loved how Zalina got what she had coming! ONIONS... who knew!!! Lol Get it and read to find out. Definitely a treasure of a read. ENJOY... I did 😊

It was entertaining enough and the sex scenes numerous and steamy but I realize many of these books are "similar" to others - this one was so similar that I felt like the author took someone else's story and just re-wrote the backdrop. I had a hard time with the way the author justified the "barbarism" of ownership of a living being- and in making the comparisons between what was "earth equality" and how it worked out for humans. I felt she left out the issue of women and intelligence and being able to "bring something to the table" like their male counterparts. I was further shocked that the author then did a complete turn around right at the end where the captain of the ship and the hero come to some agreement. All of a sudden this "barbaric" world was negotiating with women when throughout the ENTIRE book - women were to keep quiet except behind closed doors... I think at the end the author just capitulated. It would've been more believable and entertaining if the heroine was slowly able to get the hero to see her side here and there and bend a bit... however, like I said, it was an entertaining read which is why it got 3 stars instead of 2.

Ok, I admit, there were some eye rolling moments in the beginning, but as a whole, I loved it. I like stories that have deeper conflicts, not romantic angst, but truly difficult to accept conflicts. Challenging deep seated belief systems makes me enjoy a book more, whether I agree with what happens or not. Actually, I think if a romance book can not only take you thru the typical emotions, but also make you laugh, make you sad, and piss you off a little, that is the mark of a masterpiece.

I wasn't sure I'd like an alien/captured human book, but after the fourth page, I could hardly stand to put it down!! If you like your barbarian aliens to be huge (in every way) and drop-dead-gourgeous, then this series is for you!!! It's LOADED with LOTS of steam, action and wicked banter between the alien and his "fated-mate". And it has a VERY HEA ending. I HIGHLY recommend this to EVERYONE who's looking for a great love story with just enough twist to make it EXTREMELY interesting ;-)

"To Boldly go where no woman has gone before" Maddie Taylor's exciting journey into space by women exploring the vast reaches of the universe to look for a suitable planet to colonize for humanity whose failing conditions on earth was definitely a story of epic proportions. Lots of thrilling action,sizzling romance and compelling suspense and intriguing drama. This is definitely a gripping story and highly recommended.

Great story.

A very hot great story. Well written with lots of hot scenes. There is a lot of misunderstanding between Kerr and Eva. They are from different planets, with different cultures and traditions. Everything is well described but not overly so. This author has a great talent and I love reading her books. There is a lot of disciplinary spankings, spicy hot sex and love. It's easy to read.

Enjoyable read and liked the world that the writer created. It is something different to the reality we live in and I like that it takes you out of the comfort zone as a female reader and also forces you to consider 'if' the way of our world is now is the best way. Somewhat heavy handed on the sex scenes, was getting 'sex fatigue' and began skimming, it felt they were only there to pad out the story instead of contribute, but that could just be me and what I like in a story. Recommend.

Good story .....

The story started nicely but the hero made me angry many times, he's too demanding, you feel sorry for the heroine because she's supposed to give in totally to the guy, if she doesn't, she gets punished (however, in some moments, she starts getting turned on by that LOL). For those who like these thematics though, this should be a nice read. As for me, it was a bit too much and I dropped the book.
