Effortlessly create that classic "acid" sound
This monosynth has the sound many of us have been looking to create. While it is intimidating to program a sequence, there are many online resources to help. (look for sites like "Famous TB 303 Patterns") While Behringer copied the original Roland TB-303 sound even even it's esoteric programming workflow. There are a few interesting tricks in this version that the original never had. First is the built-in distortion. This is similar to common guitar pedal diode distortions of the 1980's, and has a very authentic sound. The other is there are MIDI ports. Allowing you to play the device using a keyboard controller or synchronize with a DAW or other MIDI devices. Finally there is a "CV" output, which means if you want you can ignore the sound output and instead use the TD-3 as a rather affordable MIDI-to-CV interface for modular synthesizers.

Some cheap fun for electronic music
I don't know how much better the "real thing" might be, but these are fun little units! The ideas you come up with them sound very unique and "special". I wouldn't come up with the patterns this unit does any other way. Making a pattern is a really weird process, and I had to watch youube videos to really get the workflow, but the final results are unlike anything else I've come up with over the years with many different pieces of gear tried out. The price for what you get is really amazing. The unit has held up to same pretty heavy handed use, and I don't see any obvious signs of wear or indications that it won't last for a long time if not abused. For the price, if it seems interesting, give it a try, and if you don't like it, or ultimately can't work with it's workflow, I've seen them for sale used for almost the new price, so if it doesn't work out you could always recoup most of your money, and it will still be a learning experience.
