The Acid Watcher Diet: A 28-Day Reflux Prevention and Healing Program Review: Changed My Life - Nothing Short of a Miracle For Eliminating Acid Reflux !! - I've been an desertcart customer for over a decade and never wrote a review, but this book changed my life and solved the mystery of my Acid Reflux and so since I couldn't thank Dr Aviv in person, at least I could write a sincere public thank you for better educating me on Acid Reflux and helping me figure out what the heck was causing it. I knew for the most part over the last ten years what typically caused acid Reflux and even since I was a child I knew there were just certain things I couldn't eat or I would pay dearly for it. However, this book helped identify foods I never thought could cause Acid Reflux and also helped me better understand Ph levels of foods to just finally enjoy life again without the nagging Acid Reflux monster lurking in the background. I absolutely do not like taking any medication and always thought my body was simply trying to tell me that some foods I just couldn't eat, but who would have thunk it could have been "good for you" foods like Citrus, Fruits, etc. Further enlightening was the fact that while some foods are great for you, too much of them can cause acid Reflux - for me that was bananas - 1/2 banana vs a whole made all the difference - incredible! Thank you Dr Aviv. I have shared my discovery of your book and how it has helped me with anyone and everyone I can. Beating Acid Reflux "naturally" has been a wonderful achievement in life and not relying on big pharma or having to remember to carry antacids with me like they were some kind of life saver has been such a relief. The book is well written and easy to follow. Dr Aviv explains the root causes of Acid Reflux and provides historical background on how our food has changed over the past decades, contributing to the Acid Reflux problems many of us experience today. The Ph scales/levels are extremely helpful and make for a quick reference for determining acidity of common foods. The recipes are easy, ingredients are readily available and simply work. The healing and maintenance schedules make it easy to succeed and follow along. I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing Acid Reflux, indigestion and/or heartburn. I've tried everything over the last ten years to figure it out and nothing worked as well as what Dr Aviv suggests in his book. Review: Book Guided Me to Heal GERD and Gastropathy - This book has been read and reviewed better than a doctor, in my personal opinion. I have been to different doctors and none have described what my diet needed to be. I personally asked a few doctors and they said I could eat anything, but that wasn't the case. Good thing, I read this book and received great guidance. I thought I had GERD, but it was a combination of GERD and gastropathy, which in a sense do overlap.

Book Guided Me to Heal GERD and Gastropathy

This book did help me
The most important part of this book, which my doctor had tried to tell me, but she only has minutes and the author has hours, is the seriousness of acid reflux. Having had this issue in varying degrees since I was 12, it just wasn't hitting home. I like the clear list of things not to eat, and why. I like the concept of restricting the number of foods in your diet for 28 days. This helped me identify some of my trigger foods. The recipes are not very clear - one of these, one of those, but the size can vary quite a bit when you are shopping for those things. I did try some of the recipes the first week of the healing diet and learned, because the author is crazy about olive oil, that one of my trigger foods is olive oil. Once I cut that out, my life got better. (I'm much better off with butter - which is a trigger food for a lot of people.) Instead I look for recipes for recommended foods, cut out about half of the ingredients that happen to be on the forbidden list, and go from there. That has worked fine for me. The scientific part of the book was very useful. The health food leanings not as much, but I did change my eating habits significantly and that has been very helpful in many respects. You need to read this, try it, then adapt it to your own needs. I bought this book after my "come-to-Jesus" moment after eating a lot of holiday foods. I have been taking 40 mg of Nexium for quite a few years (worked my way up to that), and eating what I wanted to. Finally, for the past 6 months or so I had to also needed take Tums at bedtime in addition to the Nexium. Then it progressed to a couple of very hostile episodes of acid reflux. Time to do my part in all of this with a change of eating habits. One of the no-nos is coffee. Since I didn't want to give it up for a month, I just followed all of the other( not-to-eat rules and gradually reduced the amount of coffee I was drinking each morning. That helped tremendously right away. At the end of the month I quit coffee. No headache but a bit more muzzy brained than usual for a week or so. I started the healing diet. The first week didn't work well because of the olive oil in some of the recipes. After that things improved. I tried reducing the Nexium to 20mg after the third week, but that didn't work out. One complaint I saw in a review was the the pH listed for the foods in the book were incorrect. People need to realize that measuring pH in food is not as simple as measuring pH in a liquid sample. And it is going to be affected by the specific variety of the food used. The results from using Granny Smith apples on the less ripe side will be different than the results from using a ripe sweet apple. The pH of apples may actually have a very wide range and may depend even on where the apples were grown. Any list you look at is likely to vary by source. The advice in this book is worth a try, just expect to use your brain instead of blindly following everything in the book.

Anyone who is struggling with GERD will find this very helpful. I've been on the PPI merry-go-round for ages and was even advised by a gastroenterologist to take omeprazole for life. This didn't feel right for me at all as the side effects creep up on you. I'm was very confused by the various pieces of advice I was picking up on the internet - some very bad advice indeed. If you're wondering how you can help yourself and ween off medication then I strongly suggest the buy this book. It is a fantastic resource on every level and Dr Aviv is very well informed. His meal plans and recipes are great and very very helpful. He lists all the foods and the PH level. I'm so empowered by controlling this problem myself now which if not treated in some way (holistically as Dr Aviv explains it or with PPi), can became very very serious as a damaged oesophagus can become very complicated. So not to give away spoilers but you will probably have to give up some of your favourite foods and drinks but tasty alternatives are offered. Dr Aviv also has an excellent website called acid watcher, and you can also find YouTube videos of interviews he's given. He has also created an additional recipe book which I have bought. I think he is wonderful and really knows his stuff. Highly recommended. I would like to add that if you read the book(s) - he has a recipe book too, you can join a closed fb group which is a very supportive community and offers many ideas and recipes and is extremely helpful in this journey. It also answers all your questions.
