Works easily with a straightedge
I've tried multiple things to try to make straight cuts for pieces of mat backing boards to mount artwork, but always had trouble getting all the way through the mat for the full cut, accidentally cutting at an angle, or coming off the guide at some point. This cutter holds the blade securely, is easy to hold, has settings for cutting foam or mat board, and rides on the edge and the top of the straightedge being used. Since you use your whole hand to hold and pull this to cut, it is much easier to work with than the less expensive cutters that are sized to use with just your fingers. It comes with some additional blades, and I like that it uses the same blades as Logan's other mat cutters. It is quite sturdy and feels like it will last a long time.

The product is a great product, but the seller does not know how to write a listing... There are far too few details about this product. More information needs to be listed in both the bullet points and description section. It comes with blades, but it does not tell how many blades are included. For all I know it could have been none or just one,I create vinyl decals and always had trouble cutting them apart for packaging. Have even had to cut boxes down for packaging and this cutter does the job very easily, you do have to put it in the track, but once that is done.. it is easy to use. Handle is a little large, whereas I suppose i need to get used to using it.

One minor improvement would make a HUGE difference
This works fine but one tiny improvement would make a big difference. There is to mark on the tool that lets you know if the blade is lined up with the line you marked on your mat to cut. My mat cutter has a mark where the blade is so I know when to stop, preventing overcutting. This straight cutter has nothing to let you know where to place the blade. Lining it up on the line is a bit cumbersome and not as accurate. I'll probably make my own mark as best I can.The quality of the item is just okay. It's plastic, like everything else around us these days. At least it came with extra blades.

Better than a knife..., but is not what it could be. :-(
I concur with the reviewers who aren't satisfied due to the blade not being sharp enough and the design being a tad too flimsy. When using with Elmer's foam board, I've never successfully made a nice, one-pass cut. If I apply steady pressure, and start the incision on the inside of the board (not outside the edges,) I can start a nice, clean cut. But as I begin to approach the other edge, the blade begins to catch, resulting in a tearing along the incision line.I attribute this to insufficient sharpness of the blade and the light, plastic design. When you start, there is plenty of board to provide the resistance necessary to make this cutter work well. But when the board/cut-piece get closer to separating, the blade starts to catch, due to the low weight of the cutter and the blade not being sufficiently sharp. The best I've been able to manage is to make multiple, small passes instead of trying to cut all the way through the first attempt. It's never resulted in what I want, and I usually have to try and clean up manually with an X-acto blade (never finishes clean,) or toss the piece completely and try again.I really wanted this to work, and I've given it plenty of trial and error attempts, but without great results. I'm looking elsewhere and keeping my fingers crossed for something quicker, cleaner and more reliable.

Great to get several of these set at different cut ...
Great to get several of these set at different cut depths to use with the Logan 450-1 Artist Elite mat board cutting system for building foam board RC aircraft. Just adjust each cutter for the correct cut depth and then label the cutter. This eliminates having to reset the cut depth on a single cutter for each series of cuts. A typical foam board RC aircraft like the Experimental Airlines series will require three of these cutters. One cutter set to completely cut through a sheet of foam board, one set to only cut through the top paper layer and a third cutter set to cut through the top paper layer and the center layer of foam.

doesn't work
I tried cutting a single layer mat board using this with a steel ruler as guide and a cutting mat underneath. The blade didn't cut through the mat board smoothly. I thought it might be the pressure I was exerting, but I tried the same set up with a utility knife and that worked fine. I was hoping the Logan would work because it's easy to skid off a straight line with a utility knife. If there's another Logan product that I needed to work with this cutter it wasn't made clear in the description.
