A GREAT hard cheese slicer! Why did it take so long to find this one!
Having purchased NUMEROUS cheese slicers throughout the years, I have to say that I was somewhat moved by others' comments to purchase this slicer and "give it a chance."I like to purchase Cheddar cheese by the block (as well as colby cheese). Previous slicers only frustrated me because they just simply did not live up to the expectations of an easy and convenient slicer. I've used wire slicers which broke apart easily, knives supposedly designed for hard cheese, and other various slicers. All which have disappointed me.This one though, I have to confess, worked GREAT! It does an outstanding job slicing our cheddar cheese. It slices it in a nice "not so thick, not so thin" slice. Perfect for us to layer on our sandwiches or to put on top of our nacho chips and heat up in the microwave. My wife commented to me that this was probably the best slicer that I've ever purchased for slicing cheese and I could not agree more. Even though I have one, I have thought of purchasing a second as a backup.PROS: Perfect slice every time, built well, ease of use (for those with arthritis)CONS: None noted.

Excellent cheese slicer
My parents have a Sweden made cheese slicer very similar to this. It is over 20 years old and still going strong. I decided I’m going to find myself one as well. And sure enough here it is. This is an excellent quality cheese slicer, for hard cheeses like Swiss cheese, cheddar, and others. It is easy to use, safe, and cuts cheese into nice thin slices. I love this product. It is also safe for the dishwasher. I’ve had it for a year and a half, it’s still going strong. It was $11 when I got it, it is now $7. If it ever breaks I’d buy it a hundred times over.

Better than a hand grater, better than a rotary grater. Really excellent.
I also bought the regular Linden cheese plane and it's really excellent. I never tried a shredder version, and it's grate (intended). Normally if you want to shred cheese you need a grater. Microplane graters are too fine for coarsely shredded cheese (as in what you'd want to sprinkle on a crepe or pizza). So you have to use a rotary shredder (moving parts to clean) or a regular box grater (more cleaning). This tool gives you coarse shreds, but takes up little space in the dishwasher and does an excellent job. I'll probably use it daily. Works well on hard, aged cheddar as well as a softer gouda. Highly recommended.[Note: If you are doing a larger quantity of cheese, as in half a pound or more, it would be better to use a food processor or rotary shredder. But the clean up of either of these has to be factored in. For enough to cover a crepe, sprinkle on a salad, mix into pancake batter (yes, it is a very good thing to do) this works fine.]

Great for cutting long slices across soft cheeses
Great for cutting the softer cheeses, such as colby, monterey jack, etc. The longer-tanged cheeseplanes always get caught. Not that this is not quite as good as the old Fiskars short-tang cheese plane (which is no longer available anywhere) as the cutting blade angle is not perfect, but it *does* seem to cut better than the other short-tang planes we have tried.

Cheese Slicer
It is hard to find a good European hard cheese slicer. This one is great although not easy as there's no easy way to slice hard cheese. American makes did not catch up yet with European cheese slicers. It is either too thick or crumble the cheese. Excellent purchase for those who want to slice hard cheese the European way.

DONT BE MISLEAD by poor reviews!! Perhaps "TENSILE" steel?
Cheese slicers made by Linden are awesome! I was leery after reading the poor reviews but I'm very glad I bought all 3 of them! They are made of what my husband believes to be tensile stainless steel. In other words, they are flexible so they don't crease or bend. They are made like steel turners made in the 50's-60's but we can no longer find. Not they don't have any flex in them. The handles are some type of ?plastic that is not impressive but so far appears to be well attached and does the job.

So easy my husband can use it without instruction
This is a great cheese slicer. I like to buy block cheese and slice it myself. I was skeptical about this cheese slicer. I was cooking and my husband asked if he could help. I handed him the brand new cheese plane and a block of muenster cheese and said, here you go. He said, man this thing works great. (he had been bugging me to get a cheese slicer and was expecting one of those wire things). He handed me a pile of cheese slices and said he was impressed with the tool. I thought it was a great price and is very sturdy. Love it.

Sharp and consistent
I really like the ease of cutting nice, even thin slices of hard cheese. We shall see how long it stays sharp, but right out of the box it's super. Easy, very consistent and quick. I've always used a wire roller slicer but this works so much better. The slices look like they are deli cut.

Slices well.
I have a slicer that is similar to this one and love it. This one was purchased for a friend and it works well. Slices cheese easily and evenly.

The best cheese plane ever.
Growing up, we had a cheese plane that cut really thin slices of cheese. I haven't yet found anything that slices that thinly, but having purchased numerous planes that don't really work at all over the years, I'm happy to report that the Linden Sweden Hard Cheese Plane works as advertised: that is, it actually *slices* the cheese. It works so well that I've purchased one for each of our kids as well.Thank you, Linden—my never-ending search for a decent cheese plan has finally ended!
