Great Primer
I used VHT Paint (Primer, Satin Black, and Clear) to restore my motorcycle wheels which had over 100,000 miles on them and looked pretty beat up. I really like working with VHT spray paint and is my first choice for a number of different applications from brake parts to engine blocks. So when I was looking for paint to restore my wheels, I turned to VHT. This paint spray nicely - and dries to the touch in 30 minutes. They suggest two light coats followed by one medium coat allowing 10 minutes in between coats. All coats should be applied within 1 hour. Any additional coats after the one hour - you need to wait 7 days for the paint to cure. This is about the only spray paint I have found that you can actually use rubbing compound to polish out the final coat and achieve a really smooth, glossy surface. My wheels look like brand new

Good on engines
When you want an above average job, VHT is the way to go. It’s not the absolute best but it’s definitely gives top results from a rattle can. Very happy with this product. I use the primer first the paint second and the clear third always great results. Just pretty sure that what you’re paying is absolutely clean and free from all contaminants and you’ll get great results too.

vht engine enamel is the good stuff.
I used the VHT engine enamel primer, paint and clear to cover the corroded, discolored aluminum on my motorcycle engine. I have seen other painted aluminum engines begin to flake and peel. I did not want this to happen. I cleaned the aluminum w acetone, primed, painted and cleared and cured according to VHT instructions. This paint MUST be cured properly. Until it is properly cured it is pretty fragile. 2000 miles and a year and a half later the finish on my engine is still in really good shape. The paint sprays on really smooth and even. Great coverage. I recently had to strip and rebuild my engine. I am here now to order more to re-spray it. I highly recommend this product.

VHT High Temp primer.
This primer works great, it covers well and thick enough to cover small imperfections. I'm using this primer on my Harley motor and Transmission.

LOVE IT!
I have painted a few engine components that have been exposed to Hi-Temps with great results. I never knew they made a Hi-Temp Clear. My current project is a 99 OBS Escahoe with 6.0 LS Swap and 4wd 80e. I painted the block using the simple steps what I have done for years. Strip using a wire brush, soak with engine de-greaser, power wash, dry, & paint. I wanted to paint my transmission purple b/c it is the same color as ATS Diesel's Transmissions & the Mrs. favorite color (but we all know the real deal) LOL. I couldn't get it at Advanced Auto Parts, I was forced to go online. Amazon had the best price but still about $3 more per can then at Advanced. When I found purple paint, Amazaon offered the primer and clear as well. I honestly had no clue about the primer spray and clear coat. I read a helpful review that the CLEAR COAT will form a SMOOTH surface over the paint. Smooth means less abrasive and the engine grime and dirt can't be in-bedded. The Cleared Part will be easy to maintain over the years keep my hard work clean! So I choose to do 3 stages Amazon recommended Primer. Paint, Clear. I still prepped (wire brush, de-grease, & power wash) the transmission before I lay first coat of primer (ended do three coats). I did as the directions on the can said to for all three stages of the paint phase. I WILL BE HONEST: When I first laid the clear I was upset, it seemed to dull the gloss purple paint that was finished drying. After it drying for 24 hours, the shine came back. Not glossy as originally it was, but the POP effect was there. The first thing I did was run my CLEAN hands over the cleared transmission & it was smooth as a virgin's bottom. I was very pleased & tempted to strip my block and re-do it in the 3 stages. I will leave the block and transmission as is see how they compare over a year and chime back in! Here is link my photobucket account of both motor and engine: [...] Hope this helps! ff40
