Will this fit a Surface Book 1 screen (when separate from the base)?

Check the dimensions, I have a Microsoft surface pro 8 and it fits snug perfectly.

Does this case make it easier to use the unit (Pro 8 plus keyboard) on the lap? Or is it still too wobbly?

It makes it so much easier!! It’s obviously still a little wobbly, but way more manageable

Would you say the material used for the composition book portfolio case is a surface suitable to put stickers on and decorate?

I can't answer for sure about the "composition book" case design. I have the Gray/Brown case and it has a textured synthetic fabric that won't hold a sticker for long. I tried an Avery label on my case and the label didn't stick well...in fact, the label easily came right off.
