The Three Billy Goats Gruff

I love Jon Klassen's books and his illustrations and this book has quickly become another favorite. I LOVE reading it to my children (7 and 4) - the words are so fun and the story suspenseful and wacky. After reading a library copy once, I quickly purchased our own copy.

My son loves this book! The illustrations are great and it’s a well-told fun update to a classic fairytale.

This is a fun retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Mac Barnett's writing has an exuberance that kids enjoy, and Jon Klassen is one of the best picture book illustrators working right now, and his artwork continues to evolve. I enjoyed their take, especially the reveal of the third and largest billy goat.

If you love this duo of children’s book writers, you will love this retelling of Billy Goats Gruff.

My three and six year old kiddos loved so many things about this book (and I did too!). The gross troll, the little (and not so little) clip clipping goats, the delightful dialogue, and the detailed illustrations. They laughed and were grossed out and it was a fantastic fairy tale experience reading together. I can’t wait for the next fairy tale that Barnett and Klassen create together!

I liked this book and my son and I are normally huge Barnett/Klassen fans. I was very excited that they'd released a new one. But my kid was really scared by this book and made me stop reading after a couple pages. He's 4, so maybe it's better for slightly older kids.

Beautifully illustrated, as you would expect from Klassen, but also dark and witty! Mac Barnett’s text stays true enough to the original narrative to be pleasing to this fairy tale purist.
