Works the best for me
I have tried various electric pre-shave options and here is my list from best to worst. You might have different results as it kind of depends on your skin type, which other online reviews don't take into account. Shaving was performed with a Braun Series 9 shaver, then a few months later with a Panasonic Arc 5 (ES-LV9Q). Shaves were performed either daily, or at 3-4 days growth. The Panasonic shaves closer with less irritation and heat build up in my experience. The pre-shaves I have tried out are as follows; Williams Lectric Shave, Aramis Lab Series, Mennen Afta, Freelette Pre/After Shave, Spieck, Remington Facesaver stick, and SuperShave ElectraSmooth oil. 1. Williams Lectric shave: Liquid is pretty thin and drips all over the place, mainly on the container, need to wipe it off before putting it back. Smell is pleasant, not overpowering. It does a decent job of lubricating and preventing the foils form heating up. Can still feel some stubble along the back of jaw near ears afterwards. Would rate about a 3.5 out of 5. 2. Aramis Lab Series; Liquid is thin, spreads easily, little to no scent. Lubrication is best of all the ones I have tried. Razor foils never heat up and allows the razor to shave really close. No stubble felt in the jaw/ear area. Would rate this about 4.5 out of 5 stars due to it being the most expensive, but bottle lasts long time anyway. 3. Mennen Afta per shave; More of a lotion based compared to liquid like the previous two. Spreads easily, has a pleasant strong smell. I would say it is not as close as the Williams. Also, while shaving it gets thicker and causes razor to drag, heating up foils. Would give it about 2.5-3 stars. 4. Freelette pre/after shave; This is a lotion based product. Has a very strong smell like soap. Only tried it once as the smell was way too strong. 2 Stars 5. Spieck Pre-electric Shave; Clear liquid. Cap seals securely and doesn't drip/leak when pouring out. Has a pleasant scent (reminds me of Brut). Lubrication was about on par with the William Lectric shave. Foils got warm, and was a pretty close shave. 3.5 Stars 6. Remington Facesaver stick; Talc powder based stick. It is messy, when you apply it goes on pretty thick and has a perfumey smell to it. When you start shaving talc fall everywhere. Foils heated up and got HOT using this product rather quickly. Closeness was about on par with the Williams and Spieck. Made a mess of the razor and cleaning station. Would rate a 1 of 5 stars. 7. ElectraSmooth for Men; Oil based pre-shave. This was a pre-shave oil. Was about as thick as vegetable oil. Had a pleasant scent. Lubrication was pretty good, although the razor didn't move about as freely as with the Lab Series, and the foils got warm. Definitely have to take a shower afterwards with this one. Was a decent shave, but can see where it and the whiskers would accumulate in the cleaning station/razor since it is a thick oil. Rate it about 3 of 5 stars. There you go. I found the Lab Series to work the best for my skin/beard type (normal type for both). The Lab series is the highest price on the list, however provided the closest shave with least irritation. Also, a bottle lasts many months, so saving $5-10 over say 6-8 months and not dealing with razor burn is worth it to me.

Simply can't imagine shaving without it!
I use electric shavers for a long time, usually top of the line ( Phillips Norelco, then Panasonic Arc5 and now Braun 9). Started applying Aramis Lab Series liquid few years ago. Before that was using Lectic Shave. I can tell you right away - there's a huge difference between Aramis and Lectic! And even bigger difference if you don't use any pre-shave lotion at all and are shaving with electric razor dry. Of course it's all subjective and greatly depends upon your skin and beard, but it my case effect of using Aramis is nothing short of spectacular. First comes much improved closeness of shave, even with top of the line shavers that are very good to begin with. Second I feel less irritation. And last but not least, this lotion reduces shaving time while providing better results. I know all this because on one occasion I went on a business trip without any pre-shave liquid at all. And then another time, I forgot to reorder Aramis and had to live for 10 days with Lectic. So I had ample opportunities to compare and, man, there was no compassion but plenty of irritation and less than stellar quality of the shave than I was used to. The trick it to apply UNIFORMLY (so there are no uncovered spots) the lotion to your face on a DRY skin. Then just use the LIGHT touch (don't press it) holding your shaver PERPENDICULAR to the surface. Shaving head will comformably glide with reduced friction over skin. When done just splash away your face with water. Of course there are downsides, like with everything: 1. It's expensive. But you don't have to use a lot of it per each shave. And then again to me results are worth it. 2. The lotion creates sort of oily film on your skin that serves as a lubricant. I'm ok with it and it easily washes away but some people may not like this sensation. Also some of it is left on your razor's head, so you have to clean/wash it more frequently. On the other hand it lubricates the cutters which is a good thing. 3. It has a slight scent that I can't really define. I'm neutral to it, but you may not like it. 4. The lotion is manufactured in UK, apparently in small batches by a small boutique firm. As such you have to order it in advance since it takes time to be delivered by Amazon. At least that was my experience.

Good product but ...
As others have said it works very well -- non-greasy, almost odorless, evaporates quickly on the skin, no electric razor drag, and leaves you with a smooth skin after the shave. But for such a high price (US$24) for just a few ounces, I found myself becoming annoyed that -- even being very careful splashing a small amount in my hand -- it ALSO causes the lotion to drip and run down the plastic bottle, no matter how I do it. This means an extra step to clean up, as well as a small waste of the product, which is why I deducted a star from my rating. It should not be hard to produce the product with a dripless spout, especially given the "luxury" cost to the customer. As a result, I'm not sure I'll re-order it (even though I'm a long-time Aramis fan) ... it might be worth shopping around for something else. Hopefully at a lower price.

7 months per bottle...
I bought this stuff the first time because it came up as one of those "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" things when I bought my Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver System, Silver . Wow. What a difference. After using it one time I pretty much was a customer for life. In fact, it worked so well that I had to do all sorts of tests to make sure it was the solution and not the razor. The razor was an upgrade for sure, but this stuff is terrific. The directions say to use three or four shakes or fluid. That's more than three or four drops. I've noticed that less solution comes out when the bottle is new and mostly filled so maybe 5 shakes is good for starting out. I put in my palm and then rub my hands together before applying it to my face and neck. After a few days of using it, it becomes stupidly easy to apply. No drips. No mess. I waited to post my review until I went through an entire bottle. It lasted almost exactly 7 months, or, less than 3 bucks a month. SO while it seems like a lot to pay per bottle, it turns out to be definitely worth it. The fluid seems to be a combination of alcohol and a very (extremely) light oil. The alcohol evaporates on application and leaves your skin ready for shaving, and allows the razor to just glide. It also seems to make the hair stand up straighter... I'm not sure if that's my imagination or not. I've never noticed the need to wash my face after shaving, and the fluid is completely odorless which I really, really like. I absolutely hate when manufactures decide to add some kind of fragrance with something like this. I'm allergic to a lot of things on my skin so in my case, less is more. Give this stuff a try. You'll be glad you did.

Safe and Very Effective.
When I first stated looking for a pre-electic shave lotion, I immediately went towards Williams Lectric Shave. I've seen the commercials many times on TV and thought it was the only product of it's type. After finding it on Amazon it had almost 5 stars, it must be great. I still read some of the reviews and I was really put off. Just compare the ingredients with LAB and you can see a big difference. I don't need my pre-shave to have added color or fragrance, and Lectric was full of it. The reviews got worse, some said after applying this product and not washing their hands it would eat away at the coating on their razors. That's not a good sign. The instructions clearly say to always wash immediately after use. Not something I wanted on my face. Sure, LAB pre-shave is 360% more expense, but that didn't matter to me at the end of the day. LAB is the only pre-electric shave i've ever used so I can't compare it. But the shave is much closer than dry. Not quite as close as using an actual razor but almost. The one reason I can never go back to dry shaving, the lubrication. The razor glides so smoothly with no irritation. I can go over the same spot a few times with no issue. Recently while I was traveling and didn't bring LAB with me, I regretted it. The difference is drastic after you get used to it. The only smell from this product is of slight alcohol, which is the ingredient that makes your hairs stand up straight for the close shave. The color is clear, and it doesn't take much. It's not overly greasy feeing and is very gentle on my sensitive skin which is prone to breakouts with anything harsh. There is no requirement to rinse the product off after use, and LAB even says so. Even though this is $18 a bottle, I could see it lasting at least 6 months. I'm 5 months into my first bottle and I have a quarter left. I use it 4-5 times a week. $36 a year for a gentle, safe and natural shave everyday seems worth it to me.

The Best Pre-Shave
I totally agree with JS 2012-02-07: "This is probably the best electric pre-shave solution on the market so far. The scent is subtle but nice, and won;t interfere with cologne. Much better smelling than Williams Lectric Shave Electric Razor Pre-Shave, Original, 3 fl oz. The splash is not inundated with alcohol, so it won't dry out your face nor make you smell like a bar! It has a very cool "warming" effect - your face will feel slightly warmed as you apply it. It quickly subsides to leave a nice cool feeling. It lifts hairs and provides a lubricating, slightly moisturized feel to make shaving easier. It may not be an absolute necessity, but in the rough game of shaving, every advantage helps! Pros: Warming sensation upon application Subtle scent - will not overpower cologne Perceptible lubrication for a smoother shave Cons: A little pricey."

Afta is better
Using a newer Braun 780 shaver, I did not find the Aramis to be a big improvement in shaving. Messy application and not providing any friction reducing feeling over dry shaving. Was ready to return the shaver but tried Afta pre-electric lotion. Much, much better than Aramis with a huge improvement in reducing the feeling of friction when shaving. Feels like a teflon coating on my face. Shaves just as close. Also being a lotion not a watery liquid the Afta application amount is not messy at all and you can feel where you are putting it. Much better smell than Aramis also, and the Afta was about 25% of the cost. Way to go Afta!

Overpriced electric shave solution
I have been looking for am alternative to Lectric shave and its strong smell. I found this product which had good reviews and thought I would give it a try although it is pricey. The item arrived promptly and well packaged from amazon. After multiple uses I have been unimpressed with this product. I must say the fragrance is nice but that is about it. This product does not work any better than Williams Lectric Shave, In fact, for myself, Lectric Shave leaves me with a closer shave and less skin irritation. The only product that worked better than Original Lectric shave for me was Williams Lectric Shave Tender Face, which is no longer made. I have a hard time recommending this product because of its price. If you happen to find it for under ten dollars, give it a try, if not save yourself some money and try a different product. I would rate this item 2.5 stars but amazon does not allow that. If this product was less expensive it would get a higher rating, but due to its price and effectiveness I can't give it higher than 2 stars.

Preis/Leistung TOP
Was soll ich sagen?!?

Best pre-shave by a long way
Lovely close shave. Only require a little amount per shave so the bottle Actually lasts a long time. Compared to some others, this is expensive but I’ve found this to perform the best by a long way. The only other make that was comparable, was the Clinique Electric Pre-Shave but that seems to have been discontinued. I’ve tried a few cheaper brands and they usually end up in the bin. The bottle seems to really last so it probably works out similar cost per shave to cheaper brands.
