This book is cruel yet kind in its cruelty.
"We want so badly to be happy – to live the kinds of lives that we always hoped we'd live – that we give gifts to ourselves by remembering things not as they were, but as we wish they were.”-> The atmosphere is eerie, memoir like and the words of the author immediately take control of your thought system as they are written with such lucidity-> there are six chapters that happen in our protagonist's childhood, he is trying to understand what happened to him along the way.-> this book has evil in it but not in a stephen king way, it is evil in a dan auerbach way where chance of redemption is zero and mystery shall leave you baffled till the very last page-> this book is cruel but its kind in its cruelty. It left me shattered (almost) and I still feel so bad for the characters. This is what is different from reading a horror and watching one. When you watch a horror, you may or may not feel bad for the characters-> I love the protagonist and all the good characters in the book, they became a part of my own family. He tried so hard to rise above the station society set him at and it was heartening/disheartening to...LOVED THIS BOOK. Perfect 5 stars but oh man, its quite unsettling and not for everyone.I repeat this is not a Stephen King book. Nor is it a Dean Koontz. This is more psychological than both. It may be scarring in ensuring you love it.

An Unsettling Horror Story
A really effective one. I would give it 4.5 stars. Reading the book is a chilling experience even if the ending is a bit trite.

Psychological Thriller!
An excellent book that grows more creepy with each chapter. The ending is truly messed up. (In a good way.)

Far too close to reality for comfort
4.5 starsThis book was an impulse buy at 2 a.m., and oh gosh, what a ride it was. It had my heart racing especially, and I couldn’t help but think, 'This is how horror books are supposed to be.' It's eerie, disturbing, and far too close to reality for comfort. As I dip my toes deeper into the genre, I’ve realized that psychological horror scares me more than anything else.If you're looking for a fast-paced, bone-chilling read with an emotional twist, I highly recommend this book.

This was a re-read it. Even when I'm familiar with the plot, this doesn't necessarily make it less unnerving. And this second time around I founded myself re-discovering the story and key events that totally went outside my radar the first time. After every chapter an important clue will be dropped and with it comes the realization of something disturbing. I don't want to give much into the plot twists since if you haven't readed you deserve to be as shocked as I was. This is was a book that will keep you hooked from the beginning. A sense of foreboding is always looming through it. I can't recommend it enough.Decidí volver a leerlo.
