The 12T is a good solid base. Very happy with the purchase. I just used it for an LED light upgrade, which had come with a smaller base. The modified light now sits solidly on the side of my lathe. The upgrade took me a while to figure out, so I'll share what I learned.Previously, I purchased an LED light with the smaller magnetic base, but it was insufficient for my use case: attaching the light to the side of my lathe. The light kept falling off. So I ordered this 12T base which has significantly more holding power.I unscrewed the LED light from the smaller base, unfortunately my light had M10 (approximately) threads. So I bought an M10 (female) to M8 (male) adapter (look for motorcycle mirror adapters). The male M8 end fit solidly in the base, but the screw was too long, so I shortened it using a hacksaw. Otherwise you risk interfering with the magnet’s internal lock/unlock mechanism.The female M10 end, which attached to my light was close but not perfect. (Maybe a fine vs. coarse thread issue?) So I smeared two part epoxy into the female end of the adapter and then screwed in the LED light tightly. The connection with the adapter is now very solid.When I screwed the light into the base I put a dab of superglue on the threads of the M8 adapter so it wouldn’t come loose from the base when I adjusted the light. (just a dab, be careful to not get superglue into the interior of the magnet or you could freeze the lock/unlock mechanism.) Pretty sure I could use acetone and/or a wrench to loosen the superglue if I ever need to get the light off the base, but I haven't tested this.As I said, it took me a while to figure all the above out. It isn’t bad as it sounds. To do it again would take a few minutes, so I’m sharing here for the one or two people who are trying to do something similar :)Finally, I’m not sure if these bases can be found with holes other than M8, but you might want to seek them out, if needed for your use case. I could have avoided a lot of hassle if I just found a base with the right size hole from the start.

Purchased product came quickly and as described

The links are metal. When you actuate the lever at the bottom it pulls a cable through the links tight which makes the whole thing very rigid. Tension is adjustable. Really nice. The dovetail mount fits my indicators. Magnet very strong.

Purchased these to make a jig for my Table Saw. Unfortunately, I just found out today that Harbor Freight sells these with a support rod setup for $12.99. So they are reasonable but overpriced.The magnet itself seems very strong. I didn't test it by using any leveraged force but trying to move it with a human force, it seems adequate about the same as my 150 mag switches give or take.

This is not a precision machinist tool. Go for the name brands, and pay for them if that's what you're looking for.That being said, the magnet in this does hold reasonably strongly. The articulated arm also holds but would move if decent pressure is applied or something knocks into it.The rating is for the device itself and it compares similarly to other 'off brand' items. In which case I'd probably shop on price amongst your choices....Mine arrived with a problem: After using the knob about 5 times, it jammed. Since I'm reviewing this product I chose to take it apart to see what was up. The knob backside is a crossbar that mates up to a slot in the magnet inside to make the magnet rotate. The slot is not lined with anything; it's just a slot in the magnet material which is the typical dark brown/blackish magnet that we've all grown up with before the fancy stuff came along.Anyway: part of the magnet had crumbled, and jammed the free rotation of the mechanism. Once I shook that out, the device does work now. But as you can imagine given that design and the materials, I am not confident of long life out of this device... I did not take any stars off for the damage; I expect had I returned it for another there would have been no problem. But my rating does take into account the overall build, design, materials, and so-so strength.If you keep this info in mind and shop price accordingly, you'll get the casual use device that this item is. This is not an undiscovered gem of high quality with low price; it just is what it is. Best luck! ~Cheers

Heavy duty magnet and holds tool in place.

It’s strong and no vibration on my lathe.

Over all this works well. It is certainly not a Noga but the price is well below what a Noga sells for. On the other hand this one is quite a bit more expensive than some other similar bases I have that perform just as well.A decent base but on the pricey side for this quality.
