A Bed of Your Own [Kelly, Mij, McQuillan, Mary] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A Bed of Your Own Review: SO cute - Big fan. The rhymes are so fun and cute. The story is goofy and adorable. The vocabulary used is good exposure for little minds. The pictures are cute. Always glad when toddler picks out this story for her bedtime story! Review: My two year-old's very favorite bedtime book... and mine too. - My two year-old adores this book. She asks for it as often as her other favorites, the classic Good Night Moon, and I Dare You! by Nicole Maubert. All other books in her large collection are frequently in rotation, but those three have a place of honor. The text is all written in a very kid-friendly all-caps font that swirls and weaves through the illustrations. It's the only book we own where my toddler seems as interested in the text as she is in the pictures. It also encourages parents to play up the voices - for example, the word "yawn" is written YAAAAAAWN in text that gradually tapers off, just like a real yawn would. The book also has lots of opportunities for parents to practice their voice acting (in our house, each animal has their own voice, which my daughter loves!). The story starts off very silly but transitions into a much calmer read about halfway through the book, when Susie Sue narrates a story to put the animals to sleep. It's a great trick to get our daughter in the right frame of mind for bed - she can start out giggling and fully attentive, and then calm down as the characters do. I do wish it came in a hardback edition, as our own copy is only a year old but is already well-loved.

great book!
Super cute. We got a few books to help my 2 YO transition from her crib to her toddler bed and this has been (BY FAR) the winner and favorite of the bunch! Reco for slightly older kids, too! Out of all of the books we tried that focused on sleeping in a big kid bed this is my favorite because it points out to kids that its not truly about getting into bed, the real issue is learning to calm yourself and work on going to sleep.

A PERFECT BOOK FOR A LITTLE ONE WHO IS STRUGGLING WITH ENJOYING THEIR VERY OWN BED!
I ordered this book for our two year old granddaughter who would much rather sleep in Mommy and Daddy's bed than in her own Toddler Bed. She absolutely LOVES the book, and relates to little Suzy Sue in the book very well. In the book, Suzy Sue finds out that her bed "doesn't feel quite right" because all of her animal friends are in her little bed too, and there's no room for her. Our little Sam has TONS of stuffed animals, and always wanted all of them in bed with her. Since reading this book, we've made a little "bed" for some of her animals, and each night she picks who sleeps in their own bed and who sleeps with her. While its not a miracle cure for making Sam stay in her own bed all the time, it has helped her value the fact that she has her own special bed, which is a big plus! :-)

Cute little book but is not exactly what I was ...
Cute little book but is not exactly what I was looking for. Was hoping it was more about how big kiddos should have their own beds etc.

Its a cute book!
My daughter just barely turned 3 and I ordered The Potty Book which really helped her with potty training! I was hoping this book could do the same with going to bed by herself. Shes slept with me since she was born and still wants me to lay in her bed with her until she falls asleep. Its only been a week of reading it to her so far so we will see if it helps.. Overall its a good read and my daughter loves it!

Great and cute book
My 5 year old daughter loves it. We have 'Have you seen my potty' and 'Achoo' from same author and this is another excellent book. My duaghter was potty training when we had 'have you seen my potty' and she giggled a lot reading the book with me finishing up a potty training completely at 15 months old. Even after finishing a potty training, she kept reading a 'Have you seen my potty' book on and on. Now she is in kind of sleeping on her own and I am very happy to find 'A bed of your own'. I really appreciate the writer.

Easier bedtime
Great book to transition to a new bed. The first line is that the protagonist brushed her teeth, which provides an opportunity to ask my toddler the same. And much to my surprise, the kid is suddenly willing to brush...so there’s that.

Little ones will love the animals and learn where some animals sleep. They are introduced to the idea of having one's own bed. A valuable lesson for sure!

This book, as with the others in the series ("Atchoo!" and "Where's my Potty?") Are some of the most entertaining pre-school reading I have encountered. Up there with the likes of Giles Andreas' ("Giraffes can't dance", and "The Chimps of Happytown"), in terms of humour, quality of writing, warmth and cleverness. Written, like the others in such a delightful, out-loud readable, poetic form, this story again recounts the tale of Susie Sue, who attempts to go to bed only to find she has a lot of unwanted company in the form of the cow, horse, sheep and goat from previous tales unwilling to tuck down in their own beds. The story unfolds in the most humorous fashion as each animal appears from under the covers complaining about their inability to sleep due to the thoughtlessness of the others. So Susie Sue leads them back to their own bed, tucks them in and then explains how it is not just going to bed but falling asleep that is the trick, only to fall asleep in their bed as part of her demonstration. The animals return the favour by carrying her back to her own bed, explaining how each creature has their place to sleep.....the final page exclaiming Susie Sue asleep in her own bed........ AS YOU SHOULD BE TOO ! The illustrations are beautiful, humorous and warm and add so much to the story, my two year old can't get enough of this book, well all three of these authors efforts. And I can't get enough of reading them. These should become children's classics and I can't recommend highly enough. Not only being great "tools" to deal with toddlers issues (Potty training, manners, bedtimes) they are books that will stay with you through childhood and be long remembered, and I can't think of higher praise than that.

Me and my kid loooove this book and all the other ones in the series. I love it because it is educational without preaching a boring sermon, and my kids love it because it is fun, and cute and relatable. Every time my girls have trouble going through some of those issues (potty, bed, going to school, good manners etc) I read them the story and she overcomes it...
