IllyX1 Anniversary ESE & Ground Espresso Machine (Red)

This machine adds the perfect pop of color on my kitchen counter. I especially love that you can either use ground espresso beans or their Illy pods.

This is the second illy espresso machine I’ve owned, and both have broken down due to a burst pressure vessel. The first one sparked and nearly caught fire, this one blew steam out of the back for a couple minutes and then continued to function, although all it did was spray water out the back after it failed. Needless to say it was an electrical fire hazard at best, and probably on the verge of a small kitchen disaster.I had really come to expect high quality products from illy, but having two machines fail is such spectacular fashion has me pretty skeptical of their products now. I’m hesitant to purchase another one, especially since this one failed so quickly.Not only that, but the return process for one that’s failed in such a bad way still requires me to purchase another one for replacement before getting a refund, and I can’t get the chrome model I originally purchased as they only have a black and red finish now.

Build quality feels expensive. Could use at least 2+psi more pressure as it isn’t very powerful. Good for ESE Pods but not so much for ground coffee.

2/3 - I really wanted to love this because of the ESE and ground features. I've had an Iperespresso and another 35th Anniversary capsule machine without Eco-Mode. There has been a design change in the controls. I'm not a fan at all, the steam pressure is so weak on this design, it takes forever. I'm an experienced barista, not a novice...I'll try again tomorrow, just received it...I may send this back. It makes huge bubbles, can't get a decent microfoam from wet steam and it yields a lukewarm cappuccino. Maybe I got a dud...I"ll contact the seller. Developing...stay tuned.2/5 - Edit: Wrote to Illy and the seller, waiting on a possible solution from Illy. I've adjust the temperature to 80 C, as high as it will go and still takes forever to steam a small amount of milk to barely warm. Developing.3/5 - Edit: I returned this adorable underpowered machine sadly. I didn't want to. I loved it's look. I must say my seller was EXCELLENT and I couldn't ask for a better third-party seller. With the ability to accept both ESE filter pods and ground coffee, the new Illy X1 anniversary machine lets you customize your espresso to your own individual taste. Besides being beautiful to look at, the features (such as eco mode) are convincingly engineered to consistently give you all the options of a custom coffee house in a very well made machine. Definitely worth the price and built to last .

love the product, but the paint in the matte finish black model is chipped in the border of the tray area. this is my second order with the same problem in the same area. returning again and getting the silver model.

No decent manual. Not hot. Doesn’t work well. I had a good Francis Francis X1 before. I am returning!!!

Water is leaking into the catch tray. Have not ffg figured out how it's getting on there.
