When you don’t remember.
Very useful, turns the shop lights off when I forget.

Slightly shallower than most timer switches - thus a bit easier to install
The average timer switch seems to be made almost with the assumption that no other wires/switches exist in the electrical box that it's being mounted in. We all know that's not a good assumption! For example, I mounted this in 3-gang elec box with two other switches. There were TONS of wires in the elec box and not much room at all to mount the timer switch. Thankfully, as I stated, this switch seems to be slightly shallower than many others, allowing me to squeeze (and I mean squeeze) this switch in and complete the installation. The 'squeeze' part was the only difficult part of the installation - everything else with it was a breeze. Good quality switch - good price - nice size/depth advantage. Nice faceplate. (please excuse the dirty label tags in the photo!)

Has held up well in a high humidity environment.
I had a digital one for using on the bathroom fan but it went out after no time. This spring wound unit has lasted over a year and is still working great.

Very good mechanical timer.
Very good timer except for the fact that the white timer plate is a little large for a standard wall outlet cover plate. I had to file the cover plate all around the opening so it would fit flush against the wall. Easy to install as no neutral wire is necessary.

Keep it simple
Replaced defective digital timer with this tried and true mechanical timer switch to operate our bathroom fan. Simple solution to a simple need

I noticed that the lock nut threads looked like the standard "1/8IP Lamp nipple" UPDATED
UPDATE: The switch hung or went to 30 minutes and was stuck "on" all day when we went out of town. I ordered another one because the electronic ones will not work with my fan circuit wiring. (neutral issue with fan vs. switch location). I will try something another wind-up timer from a different brand if this one acts up. Unfortunately, with my old house, I am not going to do a big rewire in order to use a different electronic timer. As others have noted the "lock nut" is simply too short to hold the Decorator filler plate on when used with a "Decora" style wall plate. When I got the "lock nut" to engage, the filler plate distorted noticeably. After a couple of weeks the timer began hanging up and stopping at about 10 minutes remaining. I removed the nut and plate and the timer worked OK. I noticed that the lock nut threads looked like the standard "1/8IP Lamp nipple". Sure enough the treads matched exactly. I used a 1/2" (I think) long nipple and when bottomed out in the timer, the remaining part protruded enough above the filler plate to allow the appropriate 1/8IP nut to fasten the plate. (this is _not_ the supplied nut, but the local hardware store had both the nipples and nuts) I finger-tightened the nut and it holds the plate nicely without distorting it. I have since tested the fan switch at least a dozen times and it has been working perfectly every time. I am appalled that the dates on these reviews go back to 2013 or so, so this has been a long standing issue. With this modification, the switch works acceptably. It should not have been shipped with this incorrect attaching "lock nut".

What kind of fresh Wish nightmare is this? Awful mounting/design requires hack-job
When I received this, I felt like I just received some half-assembled DIY project from Wish. You're expected to put the face-place on yourself, which itself has no alignment pins (not even to align top/bottom), secure it with a locking nut, and then put the knob on. OK, great. Simple enough, but it already strikes me as something being wrong with this product's design - no other switch, ever, has asked me to put the switch together. Let me reiterate that for those that are skimming. NO OTHER SWITCH. EVER. HAS SAID "SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED". So yeah, I'm going into this with a bit of a confused mind to start with. After I get the plate on, wire the switch up, and install it... I'm left with a face plate that's too large to sit with the cover plate which, already frustrating enough, not only wasn't included, but wasn't even an easy selection. I had to sift separately through Amazon items to find a matching face plate, and hope it was the right "hue" of Light Almond. I got close enough, I guess. But what I wasn't expecting, was that the plate was too large for the hole, in all dimensions... OF A STANDARD FACE PLATE that's been around for decades. So I have to go get the trimmers and hack and slash it down to size to fit flush with the plate... which is what I expect for any wall switch. So now we have (1) a DIY assembly task because they were too lazy to put the SKU's color plate on the switch, and (2) a phoned-in design, too large for a standard hole, that's probably for some proprietary face-plate that they INEXPLICABLY don't provide with the device itself. Icing on the cake is (3) a switch body that's 2-3 times larger, in volume, than the components inside need it to be. So it barely fits, literally with 0mm clearance on all sides, inside the box I'm putting it in. A bit miffed, I get out the cutters and finish the job. And then it doesn't even sit flush, it pokes out like a sore. Look, Woods company. Fitting of a switch in a wall plate has been a solved problem for how many decades now? I can buy a WiFi-enabled smart switch (if this switch had a working ground), and fit it in there, and never have to worry about what plate fits it. I can buy any number of switches from any manufacturer, and they'll fit, perfectly flush, in the same way as every other switch. Why would I have the expectation that your wacky-wonky mounting mechanism wants me to put the final (close-out) panel on the switch FIRST, and then install the timer plate and knob? Why in God's name would any person think that is what you expect us to do? Why do you design your product to need it that way? Do you find it difficult to simply design a timer knob that mounts flush like everyone else, and feel like you need to be Special and Different? Just no. Let this be a warning to anyone shopping for this: this switch is mounted unlike anything you've ever seen before, and the pieces come separately because they want to be "special", make you confused, and end up doing the wrong thing out of intuition instead of the weird "right" thing that they bury in small print, quietly, in a map-sized fold-out document... for what is, truly, the equivalent of a standard light switch.

Works great, saves me from forgetting to turn off my garage fans
Works great. I put it as a switch in my garage that turns on two 20 inch tornado fans.

Looks decent for the $10 per pop I got it for. No where on the box does it say it is compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs. But in my case that is okay as I don't intend to use it to control how long a fixture. Another thing and this drops the rating to a 2 now - the wall plate as shown in the image is not included. The box clearly states it is but no where in the description does it say it is not. But I do have to purchase some wall plate. Below is what the description says: Woods 59713 In Wall Switch Countdown Timer, 15-Minute, Gray Just set it and forget it! Install this unit in place of existing wall switches to bring ease to your life. It can automatically turn off bathroom fans, lights and more. Your possibilities are endless. The unit is easy to install in place of existing wall switch and fits standard and decorator switch plates, both single or multiple gang boxes. Automatically turns off after selected time to reduce energy costs with a max of 30 minutes. It is compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs. This unit is rated at 125Volt 60Hz, 20AMP 2400Watt Resistive 8AMP / 1000Watt Tungsten 5AMP / 625VA Fluorescent 15FLA, 90LRA Also CP sent it to another pickup point. Automatically turns off after selected time From zero to 15-minutes Put in place of regular light switch very easily Tin coated copper wires Lowers energy cost Well we shall see - I do like the mechanical aspect of it.

I use it to control my mixer in which I knead bread dough. Works fine. I don't need to be attentive to the time. The timer takes over. Thank you.

Put in 3 of these. They work fine. They are the old fashioned spring loaded type so not much to go wrong and simple to set.
