CURT 11028 Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4-Inch Receiver, Fits Select Mazda MX-5 Miata

Installed the hitch in an hour ,read instructions first, which were well laid out and worded easly . I first removed existing plastic plug in side of frame and with a 1 in step bit drilled the hole on the angle, leaving an egg shaped opening for the wire and accessories. A well desined Hitch which will do what We wished..thanks desiners, Tight tuck fit :) It was nice how it hung on the 2 rear bolts and made it so user friendly prior to final assy of the draw plates and attachments ..plugs fit back in the oblong holes and stayed intact. Would Buy again

Worked about like I expected and just as presented. I installed it myself without dropping the muffler and without a rack to lift the car (only a floor jack) so it took a bit longer than the instructions and videos suggested. Only real complaint is that the bolts didn’t all seat well. Not sure it I didn’t get things lined up well or if there is just too much power coat/paint in the openings. I think it will be fine and he hitch feels solid. Everything lined up with the car correctly.

I did the rear bumper fitting based on the passenger side mounting hole. This led to a 1/2 inch error. Using the driver's side made the installation fit perfect. All hardware and coated surfaces were first grade. I was a little leery when I saw the shipping packaging, hole in the box, but everything was in great shape. Appearance is amazing.

As others have noted its a complex install as the hitch has to be assembled during the process. There are several good videos on putting this hitch on an MX-5 and you should watch them. If youve done a hitch before its not an issue, if this is your first, youve got some work ahead of you. My install went well but have an aftermarket muffler and there is contact between the exhaust and hitch after the install. I think its the larger tubes of the muffler.
