Only watch if you watched everything that came before in chronological order.
5 star movie for Star Gate fans. It won't make sense if you haven't watched everything that came before in order though. I'm a fan and I love this series of TV and Movie releases. There's no "non stop profanity" that is prevalent nowadays. There's no "non stop sex scenes" either. There is strong story line that doesn't need that kind of unnecessary drama. Thank you!

Not as Good as I Expected
I was let down by this movie, I've read the other reviews and I can understand how people are excited by seeing their favorite characters back again, but personally I think they are over-rating this film and not being critical enough. Don't get me wrong, its ok but that's about it, it would have made a good two part episode but not a great movie. The problem here is they are adding a little extra for effects or going on location and just selling episodes as movies at $16 to $20. So what were my problems:Length - this was too short for what they wanted to accomplish. They could have added an hour to this and really added to the plot. If I'm going to buy episodes of Stargate, I at least want to feel like I'm getting enough for my dollar.Subplot - The subplots were stupid, Mitchell's grandfather just so happens to be the captain of the ship carrying the stargate in 1939. Yeah that's believable, your audience isn't stupid and that subplot added nothing to the overall film, it was a complete distraction. Oh, and of the entire Armed Forces to just happen to be at the North Pole training - It's Jack O'Neill, yeah ok again your audience is stupid and you're the smartest script writers in the world. Give me a break. From TV to Movie - I sense a lot of the problems with this film, and potentially future films is going to be coming from an overly excited crew that are getting to do more making a movie than they did making a TV episode. They seem to be more concerned with their locations and adding cursing to the script then they do about the quality of the plot and script writing as well as directing the acting. The whole "we filmed it in the artic" means nothing, you get one scene of Sam and Mitchell walking across the tundra and some aerial shots, big deal nothing makes up for a good plot or at least spend more on the special effects. This is even becoming a formula for the Stargate movies, let's pick a cool location, and then have one or two of the character just walk while we fly around filming them and we can add an orchestra piece and that's really going to impress the audience, or are we impressing ourselves while making the film. The problem is they are impressing themselves not the audience, it just slows down the film for the audience and the film is already too short for that, spend the time with plot development not impressing yourself with the location. They think if they can impress us with their cute stuff, but nothing, nothing can replace a well thought out script and thoughtful dialog. **spoiler** There are two examples of this that drove me crazy, one was when Jack is killed by Baal, don't you think after 8 seasons of building up the Carter/Jack relationship she might start crying or freaking out and then when Daniel falls through the ice is frost-bitten and they have to leave him behind to die, don't you think that might call for an emotional moment or some great final words before you leave a beloved member of the team to his death. No we only get Daniel saying, "Bye," that's it...great script writing, well thought out. This is why this movie needed to be longer, this why they shouldn't focus so much on location and cute curse words, so you could fully develop the plot and script.Richard Dean Anderson - OK most of us thought he was going to be a major part of the story, hello, why wouldn't you make him a bigger part of the story; he was the bedrock of the series. Instead we get a couple of unremarkable cameo appearances, with goofy dialog and no substance. That was a let down, especially since you advertised him so heavily as being in the film.Effects - I really was expecting more effects then what we got. I thought there was going to be a great battle scene in space or cities getting blown up, but not really. It was a big let down for a short movie without much action, just the film makers trying to impress us with location, or planes and subs, etc. It wasn't great.I'm getting ripped off - Bottom-line, I love SG-1, I've seen every episode, but I really want thee show back... I'm not going to keep running out to buy these extremely short films. It's a marketing scheme. I'm sure they are making a lot more selling these DVDs then producing the show. I'm done buying the films. They just aren't worth it. Put the show back on the air or why don't the "movie makers" just make a sci-fi stargate mini-series at least you would have time to fully develop the plot. Anything is better than making your fans buy these films, or make better planned out films.

And so it ends ...
Just watched all 10 years of SG-1 and the two movies - and now it's done. This was a TV show ... and ... they did a lot of the things TV shows do that ... aren't as good as what can be done in a movie - where the core cast doesn't need to survive - but - as TV shows go - this was one of the best.It was such a joy to watch something not polluted by "Diversity" in all it's Political Correctness.I've done this at least 4 times now, watching all 10 years of SG-1 and the two movies but - in a few days it's going to leave Prime and ... while paying $4 to watch each of the movies was doable ... the cost of paying to watch the whole series is usually prohibitive. So - this may be the last time I'll ever be able to do this - and that is a sad day. I suppose if I really get to miss it - I could buy the DVD's. We'll just have to see.Sadly - Atlantis just did not measure up to SG-1 and Universe was just the kind of Diversity Abomination I was so happy this wasn't.I really liked how they brought so many of the past actors and characters from the 10 year run. That was truly wel

Yet Another Stargate Continuum Review...
Several weeks ago, I was invited to a Special Viewing of Stargate SG-1 Continuum. I was, obviously, very excited and shocked that I was chosen to see the movie before it came out... Plus, with all the reviews stating that this would be a typical SG1 episode (With Rick), I couldn't wait! (What can I say, I'm a HUGE RDA fan!)...The beginning of the movie was perfect. To see the "Old Gang" together, again, made the opening that much more enjoyable! Plus, RDA was great with the character moments, and just him being himself! Trust me when I tell you that you will not be disappointed in the beginning...!After the beginning of the movie, it seems that the writers had to "cheat" to allow the main characters to keep their memory of the altered time-line! The other problem with the movie is that it seemed to be rushed to a certain degree!I will admit that is was extremely nice to see so many old faces, but the problem was that there wasn't enough time to spend "quality" time with all of them, and the fact of the matter is that the writers had to keep the story moving!! I will admit that they did, thankfully, have a few more character moments between the cast than in SG-1's "Ark Of Truth", but it still wasn't enough in my opinion. Please do not get the idea that this movie was bad... In fact, I'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys the Stargate show, but at the end of the movie, you will feel like something was missing, and you'll want more, but you'll have to wait for another Stargate movie to be made!! (BTW, don't forget to look at Col. Mitchell's locker... Something will have changed; can you see what it is?) What was it Jack O'Neil said, "Even us humans know time travel is nothing but trouble...!"In any case, I would still recommend this movie to any Stargate SG-1 fan, but in my opinion, I believe that "Ark of Truth" was a better movie, though not by much! However, I will be purchasing this movie, and hope you all do the same! Besides, if we all purchase this movie, then MGM may make more SG1 movies! (Or, perhaps they'll bring it back to T.V)

deja vu all over again
If you've not seen all ten seasons of the tv show Stargate SG1 or the tv film Stargate: the ark of truth, then stop right there. Because this is another tv movie that continues from where the show left off, and it doesn't make any concession for new viewers. If you have, then read on.Stargate continues here in another movie. The first one, the ark of truth, tied up some of the loose ends from the show. and this one deals with another. the fate of system lord ba'al. He's about to be executed, but he has one last trick up his sleeve. as a result the tineline is suddenly changed, and the surviving members of SG1 have to adapt to a somewhat different world. And deal with Ba'al when he launches the next stage of his plan.A competent and well made production, but it doesn't feel like anything we haven't seen before. and indeed we have, because the show did a changed timeline two part story at the end of it's eighth season.Initially impressive set pieces in the first half an hour - with some great location filming in the arctic - give way to a middle section which is all character drama as the characters have to cope with the strange new world. you will either like the moments in this or find it a bit slow, depending on what you want from this movie.action then kicks in come the final third of the movie, but despite some impressive cgi spaceships and a good use of jets the budget seems to have gone by this point. one big event happens offscreen and the final confrontation occues on a rather average set. There are delights for the fans in seeing richard dean anderson once again, and a final appearance in the show for don s. davis. but conversely the nature of the changed timeline means vala and teal'c don't figure very much, and their absences are rather noticeable.this is a competent and well made production but it's strictly for hardcore fans and yit's ultimately all a bit predictable. there is one dangling plot thread that is introduced as a way of setting up a future movie. hopefully that will be a bit more original.the dvd offers the following in addition to the movie:language tracks in english german and spanish.subtitles in english turkish spanish german and portugese.a commentary from the writer and the director.a twenty two minute long making of documentary. this has it's moments, not least an interesting look at the set built for the shipboard scenes and how the actors reacted to getting to fly in jets.a twenty minute long documentary about the filming in the arctic. this is a very interesting travelogue and has some great scenery on display so it's well worth a look.and a laymans guide to time travel, with a scientist explaining a few of the concepts. running just under twelve minutes you need to play close attention to all that he says, but it's really quite fascinating so it's worth a look. And that's this dvd. not the greastest thing ever, but it has it's good points.

Ba'al's swansong
`Continuum' is the second of the Stargate SG-1 TV movies and I feel it is far superior to `The Ark of Truth'. This movie sees the conclusion of the Ba'al clone storyline from the series with SG-1 overseeing the death of the last of the Ba'als. Ba'al has one last trick up his sleeve though and, through the use of time travel, sees to it that Earths gate is never found.`Continuum' is a great fun film that is very enjoyable and is a great ending to the Stargate series. The film could have probably used a bit more in the way of time in order to get the best out of the storyline but it nonetheless gives a good account of itself in the one and a half hours that it got. The acting and the script are on a par with the series proper but I must say that I did like Claudia Black's performances as her Goa'uld persona Quetesh and Cliff Simon as Ba'al is always enjoyable. There where a few small niggles with the special effects in places but otherwise they were on a par with those seen in the series.Overall, despite a couple of problems, `Continuum' proved to be a great film that is a must see for any Stargate fan.

Stargate in the Arctic!
After years of running round the same forest we actually get to see some of SG-1 in one of the least accessible places on Earth - the Arctic. Not only that but the US Navy actually lent one of their real submarines to the shoot, making the loan of two fighter jets by the US Air Force almost seem small in comparison. I could go on about the sheer number of guest appearances in this film, and the fact that it's got Ba'al in the lead villain role, and he's probably the most popular Stargate villain ever... But the most important thing is that it is a great SG-1 story, on a much larger scale than we've ever seen before. Well worth the money, even if you've seen it on TV (it has a very good set of extra features, including a long look at the Arctic shoot and the Navy sub).Oh, and if you're a parent worried about what the reviewer concerned about the "swearing" said, then I'd be more concerned with the couple of scenes involving a very sharp sword than a couple of uses of the "s-word". If you're that concerned, buy them Stargate Infinity - Vol 1 instead. Stargate Infinity - Vol 1

Questionable
Continuum follows up on the second to last enemy (Lucian Alliance are still out there - 3rd movie anyone?) in SG1 - Ba'al. His clones have all been killed and he is the last one, or so we think. As the extraction process begins, Ba'al warns of a plan set by the real Ba'al, which SG1 dismisses as a lie. The film then cuts to Ba'al arriving through the stargate on Earth, just 70 years in the past when it is being transported from Africa to America. Back to where we left, Teal'c, Vala & other Tok'ra dissappear before their eyes. As this mayhem ensues, the team runs back to the gate, but to an alternate timeline, one set in motion by Ba'al, leaving it up to them to set things straight. This film goes on quite well, RDA returns (for a little while) and we get to see Ba'al in control of the entire galaxy, having conquered the Goa'uld. We even see Apophis (for a good 5 minutes), although he is killed, along with other system lords Nirriti, Yu, Ra, Kronos, Camulus and Quetesh, which i thought was a nice touch. Teal'c has even been mislead by Ba'al and is now Ba'al's first prime. The timeline has been screwed up and its great to see, but this is nothing more then another excuse to let a bad guy go out with a blast. In truth, you could play the start, cut out most of the film's middle, then play the end, which would just show Ba'al's extraction. And again when you think about it, just like the end of season 8 again we see the SG1 we've been following killed off. It's a great film, and at least it's better then the Ark of Truth, but to be honest it was quite a weak story, and Robert Cooper could have written something 10 times better to get rid of Ba'al. If you're a fan of the series, then you've got to watch it. But for anyone who hasn't watched the series, then you'll be confused throughout the film.

Interesting film for Stargate fans!
With there being one film that pre-dates the series and two that come after, I actually bought the wrong film first- not realising that Ark of Truth rounds of Series 10 and Continuum is a stand alone film.Due to the fact that it features a lot of Stargate-specific info and expands on a previous storyline, I'd say you would have to already to a Stargate fan in order to appreciate (and possibly understand) it.In Continuum we finally see the end of Baal, although he goes not go quietly and sets into motion an unforeseen plan which forms the basis of the film. Quite a good and unexpected plot. With an appearance from O'Neill (with two L's)A MUST see for Stargate fans.
