Ant Mountain is a mountain of fun! My boys loved it!
I bought this for a summer project for my little 6 year old entomologist and we loved it. His big brother (9) was very interested in it as well. The hardest part was waiting for the ants to arrive after we mailed in our order coupon that came with the instructions. It took about 2 weeks to get the ants, but once we turned them loose they went right to work and we thoroughly enjoyed watching them build their tunnels, move the sand, eat, etc. We fed ours little bits of strawberry, melon, and carrot (just tiny pieces every few days) and that seemed to keep them going. The group lasted about 3 weeks and then died off within a few days of each other. It was a fun project and I would highly recommend this product and process. We will definitely be doing it again.

It doesn't come with ants. This is in the ...
It doesn't come with ants. This is in the product description, so it wasn't a surprise, but what did surprise me is that it takes 2-3 weeks for the ants to arrive. So, after you get your ant farm, you suddenly have to wait at least 2 more weeks before you can actually use it (instructions say not to use ants that you collect yourself - I tried anyway, and it didn't work).

Such a waste.
I’m not sure if it’s the habitat or who sent the ants but our ants died in three days. I followed all of the instructions and they still died. I tried to dump the dead ants out and it was such a mess with the sand that I threw away the whole farm. Such a waste.

Cute any farm, but ants sting!
Really cute....my 5 yo daughter loves it. The ants came quicker than I thought they would. The only thing that scares me is the actual ants they send you. It says they sting....yikes.

Fun project
This ant hill was a super fun project for my kids. They were excited each day to see what new tunnels the ants had dug. However, once the ants died (about 2 weeks) there’s not much use for the ant hill. The small ants that we can collect from the yard are too small and would fit through the holes at the top.

Really bummed that they put a stupid sticker on the front of this
Really bummed that they put a stupid sticker on the front of this. Seemed like it was going to be easy enough to remove, but then... it tore and got gross. So we did the typical "use a bit of goo gone" to remove the residue, only all that did was spread the adhesive all over the place. Now the plastic is foggy and weird and icky. My kid is super bummed that we "ruined" the view on this thing. Stupid stupid STUPID when manufacturers put permanent stickers on items.

Not easy
It says to moisten the sand before putting in but it's incredibly difficult to put sand in the unit. I sent away for ants shortly after receiving and they arrived weeks later. Had I had an opportunity to use before the return window closed I absolutely would have returned this product, maybe I would get a gel habitat.

Our Preschoolers would definitely give this a 9 star!
Reason, we had 9 students. We were blessed with great Harvest ants that were amazing to watch. Much better then the small farm one for students to observe. They would get out their magnifying glass and watch.
