Yes, great size for a chin chiller. Also good for a foot, hand or head chiller. In all seriousness, yes this would be great for a chinchilla.

MAYBE 2...depending upon the size of the adult rats. You will NEED more than one of these if you have 4 rats.

What size would you recommend for guinea pigs?

I have the extra large size for each of my 2.26lbs juvenile guinea pigs. The door is ample for easy access/exit, the circular window is too small for exit/entry. I put their dish of salad in front of the circular window, and they often pull it through to eat from the inside of the house. Cute :)
