Super Fast SSD that can run games from it externally
Let me start with saying that I was sceptical about purchasing an external SSD that looked the way this one does via the amazon page; I also questioned what kind of bottlenecks would happen when using this device. Now that we have my scepticism out of the way let's get to what I actually found out about this product once it was delivered. This device is amazing; it's probably one of my best purchases I've ever made on Amazon. First off the actual construction of the casing that protects the chip-set is very durable and so small that it's very easy to bring with you no matter where you go; I did buy a carrying case later on to keep the usb and the ssd as one easy grab when I'm on the go. The device works well on USB 2.0 but let me tell you that when I connect this SSD via USB 3.0 this drive blazes with no bottlenecks and perfect SSD speeds. This device is much faster than my internal ssd that I have on my home system; and that's incredible for an external drive. I have ran World of Warcraft from this drive and it has run flawlessly with super fast load times and no hiccups. When you plug the drive into the USB 3.0 port it is recognized and ready to go within an instant. I haven't used the encryption software yet as I haven't had a need but I will at some point and will update this review once I do. I would love to eventually get my hands on the 480gb model but for the time being I can't afford to pickup another drive; even with these prices being so great. If you need an external SSD this should be your first and only choice.

Excellent External SSD - drive used to host programs outside main computer's hard drive
I am very happy with the performance of the SSD. I run this off of a USB 3.0 port on a lenovo Y50 laptop. First thing I did when receiving the hard drive is check for bad sectors and read/write speed. Results were very similar to those presented here by other users, and I did not have any issues. My primary use of this SSD as an external hard drive for storing Steam games. My Y50 has a 500 gb SSD installed, but steam was taking too much of that space, and I was forced to uninstall most games to accomodate other higher priority programs that I needed for grad school, work, etc. I am now able to store all of my games on this drive, and run each of them without any hassle. The best way that I was able to find to transfer my steam games was to copy the entirety of my steam folder from program files to the external SSD. Then, in steam settings, I added a steam install directory (selecting the directory of the external SSD). I was not able to find an easy way to tell steam that the game files are now in a new directory; what I had to do was hit uninstall on the originally installed game, which deleted all files from the laptop's hard drive, and then "reinstalled" the game to the new directory. Steam briefly displays as "downloading" while it searches the external SSD for already installed files. Once it finds the files are already there, steam displays "download complete" and the games are ready to play. Alternatively to all of this, steam games can be directly downloaded from steam to the external SSD. I'm very happy with the performance of the drive itself; I cannot see any lag time in games due to loading from external hard drive issues. I imagine this may be a problem if running the Sandisk Extreme from a usb 2.0 port. The drive gets warm, not hot, when installing games to the drive. Marginal temperature increase was noticed during game play, but not as warm as during installation.

Speedy and reliable...this SSD is a great alternative to underperforming USB flash drives and hard drives
I love this little SSD drive! Using a MacBook Pro retina with only a 256GB SSD, I needed more space and have used large capacity flash drives with mixed results. What was immediately apparent from using this SSD was how much faster the transfer rates seem to be. Several GB transfer in seconds, not minutes. Part of this is the USB 3.0 interface no doubt but even traditional flash drives seem to peak at about half the speed of this unit. It is not the cheapest of the crowd but I can vouch for its performance and would definitely recommend it to anyone needed higher capacity transfer speeds and durability (art/design, music, video). The one gripe is a small one... I am concerned about the interface itself. There is a flimsy rubber tab that seals when the unit isn't connected to a USB cable. It just doesn't feel like it will hold up for too long although I have not had any problems thus far and use it daily. If you are a bit rough with your devices, I might recommend a more durable unit but for the vast majority of high capacity users... You won't be disappointed!

Sandisk Backs Up a Really Good External Hardrive
Every time that I think I've found the solution for an external hard drive, I always get let down hard. Usually it begins with device failure followed by an IT tech telling me that I'm SOL on data recovery... I have been especially disappointed when I've paid extra for a product to be more ruggedized (some drives are MIL-SPEC for drop, shock and vibe...) and they fail anyways. I've tried different brands and it doesn't matter. And most warranties don't extend very far into the future. The worst part is when you ask about getting your data back. Data recovery is never guaranteed and it's often twice what you paid for the device in the first place and again no guarantees... Then I bought the SanDisk Extreme SSD device. Fast data transfer, reliable, easy to protect,...And I love the form factor. Unfortunately, the USB 3 port on my device broke after eleven months. Suddenly the drive wasn't visible to my computer. Here we go again, right? So why did I rate the device 5 stars? Because for the first time in my external hard drive buying experience, I found a company that actually really supports their products. SanDisk support was terrific. When I didn't see a warranty with Amazon, I called them direct, their number showed up right at the top of Google search, and I was speaking to a live person in about a minute. I thought for sure, they would tell me the same thing, no guarantees on the data, maybe no replacement on the hardware,... Instead, they apologized for the inconvenience and informed me that they support the device for three years. They gave me an RMA number and told me no worries on the data. And then they blew my mind - they gave me the permission to open the device (who lets the customer do that?), access my data via the SATA port and back it up and delete it off of the device before sending to them for a replacement. For once, I didn't lose all of my files...at a time when I really couldn't afford to. So I have a new device, my data was saved, and for once, I actually felt supported by customer support. Kudos Sandisk!

Great product (if it works)
I needed two 1T SSD drives and I found a less expensive one on Ebay (plus no taxes!) so I unfortunately bought it (the seller had a great rating). He only had one unit, so I was wondering what to do about the second unit when Amazon had a sale on it so I bought my second unit from Amazon. It worked great right out of the box, just attach the USB to it and to a USB 3.0 port on my computer and the computer immediately recognized it. I started doing a backup and I don't have any exact numbers, but it seemed to be the fastest copying from my computer's hard drive to an external drive that I have ever seen. I was very happy. My rating above reflects my Amazon purchase. If I were rating the unit from Ebay, it would have been a 1 since the drive simply fails to work, despite several attempts using different cables, different USB ports, rebooting, etc. I noted that my experience is far from unique, when the drive works, it is great, when it doesn't work, well it doesn't work. My advice is to make sure you get a good warranty from the seller (by the way, Amazon has the best warranty program of just about anyone; perhaps with the exception of Costco which also provides a great warranty). I am just now beginning to worry about how to deal with my defective unit. Do I try to return it to the seller (who is Canadian), deal with SanDisk, deal with Ebay? I am fretting about even thinking what nightmares I will have trying to get this unit returned/replaced/refunded/repaired/who knows what.

SandDisk SSD drive usb 3 connector breaks VERY easily!
Being a writer and photographer for a major magazine I had bought several of these to use in the field. They seemed to be the perfect fit for what I was looking for. Small, rugged, fast and secure. I had great luck for the first while with these. So much so that I bought three more. However, after about eight months of use, one of the ports on the hard drive itself came out with the USB 3 cable when I unplugged it. I very rarely unplug the cable from the drive itself as I usually just leave the cable attached. The soldering had come apart inside USB 3 connector portion of the hard drive. I chalked it up to bad luck and moved on. However since then I have had it happen again. Only this time it happened on a drive that had very critical information and photos. Attached are photos of pieces that broke off as well as the SSD drive itself. I found a workaround by taking it apart and unplugging it from the USB three portion of the connector. I then used an e-sata connector and was able to recover my data. For a drive that is so rugged and nice I’m beginning to notice that the USB 3 attachment portion of the hard drive is extremely weak. I highly recommend you never unplug it once you have it plugged in. I hope that SanDisk fixes this and make things right with customers. But seeing that many people have had the same issue I’m hoping that this helps someone out there that might have the same problem, you can recover your data yourself by taking the hard drive a part unplugging the USB 3 portion and plugging it into an e-sata connector.

light, super rugged, small and the transfer speeds on this thing are Blazing fast
did my homework reading reviews and seeing this thing in action on youtube. took a dive and bought 2 of these for my father and myself. i use it for everything copying video files games and ill be using it when i go on vacation it's small, light and super rugged. the transfer speeds on this thing are amazing! i also paired this thing with the "Kingston Mobilelite G2" so when im on the go with friends and we are all taking picture we can transfer pictures to this thing and stream from it as well, and even copy pictures from it back to our phones. if i could give this thing more stars i would. i will definitely be recommending this to my friends. and if you are looking for a fast and extremely portable hard drive get this thing! you wont regret it. at the time of my purchase 1/18/2016 i bought the 480GB version for $179.99 each when it was on sale so i feel it was worth the money. i'll update this review in a few months to let you know how this thing has kept up hope this helps you guys out.

Great Drive! Fragile USB Port...
THINGS I LOVE: - Tiny footprint, compared to LaCie Hard Drives - Fast transfer speeds, pushed GBs of data in second - Light and Durable, able to throw it in my bag while on the go without worry THINGS I HATE: - Fragile USB port, connected to a fragile internal board (DEAL BREAKER) - Went through two because of connector damage This is a tiny, neat SSD. I originally purchased this for use at work; transferring video files between computers. This SSD had tripled my productivity time. My biggest gripe, which is a deal breaker, is the connector. The small size is nice, though that means the board inside is minuscule. I’ve gone through two of these because of the connector getting damaged. The USB port is easily broken off of the internal board when stress is put on the cable while connected to it. I’ve read it in multiple reviews below, but wanted to give it a shot myself. If the cover is on the connector, this is the most durable drive I’ve had. As I work in an inside office environment, I found myself not covering it with every use and leaving the cable attached. IF YOU DO PURCHASE, make sure to disconnect the cable each time you use it and don’t travel with it connected. It WILL damage the connector and render the SSD useless. In my two cases, it would only connect when bent a certain way, long enough for me to wipe and warranty return. MY ADVICE: spend the money on another SSD that isn’t as compact. It is great when you need to throw it in a bag and go, but will only last if you take care of it. I, personally, do not like spending the time to disconnect the cable. With video editing being my main line of work, the time adds up and I spend way too much time worrying about a fragile device.

Perfect, handy device for speed
With Amazon's prompt delivery service, for the SSD quickly. Was looking for such a SSD to speed up my iMac and guess what... My expectations were fulfilled. After quick reformat and following installation guide, I can see the OS, the Apps are as speedy as my MacBook Air which has native internal SSD in it!

A tiny speedy marvel!
After looking for a good SSD drive I settled on this one. Especially after reading other people had used them with Macs to install the OS on. For me since the Feb 2016 issue of Mac Format I had it in my mind to buy an SSD and follow their instructions to create my own Fusion drive. With this SSD this is exactly what I have done. Connected through a USB3 port on my 2012 Mac Mini. As it is a desktop mac I can use this kind of setup, without the need to try and crack open my Mac Mini. Compared to the OS when installed only on the built in HD it is so fast. Boot times have dropped from a few minutes to 30 seconds. I mainly use this mac for storing media such as my iTunes library installed from CD in Apple Lossless, and connected to a separates Hi-Fi. In use tasks are so fast now. The instructions for anyone else wanting to use this SSD as a fusion drive are in Feb 2016 issue of Mac Format page 64. It also has the terminal command for turning on TRIM if you use OS Yosemite or more recent. However I have heard of some Third party SSD's having issues with TRIM on a mac. So I currently have not tried this command. I would recommend anyone thinking of trying it to google first, as I believe there are sites with lists of Drives not to use TRIM with unless on Windows. Anyway for me I love this little drive that now makes my Mac so much faster.

Nickel ! :)

Estremamente compatta, estremamente comoda, estremamente veloce.
SSD USB3 120GB prodotta da SanDisk. Utilizzabile come una molto capiente chiavetta USB oppure...come SSD esterna che libera l'HD di sistema dai files A/V prodotti quotidianamente. Su computer all in one o su portatili, la SSD di SanDisk consente di lavorare senza problemi con files PESANTI. Dopo 12 mesi di utilizzo mi sento di consigliarla a chiunque abbia poco spazio e molti dati. Consigliatissima !!!
