Is the wattage 30watts per light or a total of 30 watts for all five lights? I am looking at a similiar light and it is 150 watts.

Can we only use two of the lights and if that is possible would that decrease the wattage use?

All of the lights come on. So no, you can not decrease electric usage. However, this is flexible enuf to grow on multiple levels so I’ve been pleased with its ability to provide light in a growing room with zero outside sun. For sprouting, I did use heat pads as my area is also cool.

what is the proper distance the lights should be from the plants?

Depending on type of plants. Some based on age 2 to 4 inches away and others 8to 10 inches away but with all the arms it makes it easy to accommodate various plants
