Q: Do they extend a bit over time? Size M feels slightly tight around thighs whilst L has too wide waistband... not sure if to keep smaller ones

If tight I'd recommend going up size

Q: Would these work as a swimming shorts

There is no lining or cotton gusset in the shorts. But the material is quite thick and not see through so could possibly be used for swimming. Don't know how well they'd fair with chlorine though
