What is the max height of a bottle that can fit and be refilled using this cooler?

The space from the spout to the base, where you sit your cup, measures 9". My 8" 30 oz. Yeti like cup fits with room to spare. The spouts are not set very deep into the face of the machine so even if your container was taller than 9" you could tip it just a bit and fill it right up.

Is there a water reserve tank? If so, how many gallons does the water reserve tank hold?

Cold Water Tank holds 3.6 Liter at 47°F. Hot Water Tank holds 1.0 Liter 185°F.

Can a sports waterbottle fit in the dispensing area?

yes - I refill water bottles all the time and we fill pitchers of water to use for making coffee

Does this come with a filter?

Yes, it comes with the filter. Be careful of replacement filters sold on Amazon. There are definitely bad copy cats. I get mine directly from Avalon.
