Great product
I had previously purchased a temp/humidity sensor from Proteus. I was so impressed with its features and ease of setup that I bought the water sensor to place in my basement. As expected, the setup was unbelievably simple. To test it after setup, I dripped a small amount of water by the sensor wire. It worked flawlessly.

Small and easy to setup. Peace of mind... priceless.
This is the most compact and economical gizmo you'll find to use as an early warning system for leaks or moisture contact. Comes with a 7ft cable attached to a sensor which you plug into the brains of the unit using the 3.5mm phono plug. Easy to install, connect to the internet, and configure to receive alerts. The controller unit detaches from the USB/power adapter plug... so IF you need the sensor to be further away, you can probably use a USB male/female extension cable. Be advised that if you need an extension cable longer than 16ft 5in, you should probably consider using an "active" USB cable to drive the signal. Unpredictable results can occur if you're being unreasonable.Pros: No batteries. Simple, easy, runs off standard power outletCons: 1) Needs household power to operate (obviously). 2) Needs residential WiFi to be active (of course). 3) Relays communications through the Proteus cloud server (middleman). If any one of these three things are down, you're blind for the duration. However, you can always connect it to a battery backup unit (UPS) and run for hours if your power source is unreliable.Overall, a good unit and great peace of mind, especially for those unfortunate enough to have a water heater in the attic!

Set up was five star - will determine value as time goes on.
I just installed my first Proteus alarm sensor. I have only given it a four because it has only been installed for one hour. I had significant water damage due to a water pipe leak and I have installed this where all the major pipes and stacks are located (the source of the leak). I can say however that set up was five star. It was the easiest set up I think I have ever had with any device. Instructions were clear, easy to follow, not complicated and the device functioned immediately. Now I can have some peace of mind when I am away from the house on weekends, or, for longer. If this works well (stays connected and alerts) over the next three to four months I will probably buy some additional sensors to add to the network. The ones with alarms are great when I am here but when I am not I will be counting on Proteus to send me an e-mail.

Absolutely genius! This could save us from catastrophe (and many thousands of dollars).
Some years back, I was walking in our completely finished basement and the bottom of my socks got drenched -- the carpet was soaked. Our sump pump failed, and our backup water-powered sump pump did not activate because its switch was stuck (so make sure to periodically lift and test those switches). I just happened to catch it early, but it still cost us a few thousand bucks in damage, treatment, and restoration.I went to Home Depot and bought a cheap battery-powered water alarm. Yes it's loud when you're next to it, but where are sump pumps located? Basements. If you're upstairs, you may eventually hear it, but if you don't, depending on how much water you're dealing with flowing into the sump pit, you might still be flooded by the time you do hear it.Enter the Proteus AQUO: I bought this reluctantly. It's not inexpensive, and it's not terribly impressive to look at in the photos. Do not be deceived -- it's a fantastically executed product and service. Unlike the cheap store-bought water alarm I've been using, the Proteus AQUO beeps intermittently (beep-beep-beep-beep) as opposed to the cheap alarm's constant unending single beeeeeeeeeeep that might be easier to miss. (Our ears can desensitize to a constant, never-ending tone, especially if it's faint.)More importantly, there's a very affordably priced per-use premium service that will text, email, and/or call you. I set it to call all our mobile phones (wife, teenage kid, me). At night, though, we mute our mobile phones. We still have a home phone, and that we do not mute, so I set it to also call our home phone which WILL wake us up in the middle of the night if it rings (and which, in this case, I'd very much want it to). I also set it to email us and text us -- if my sump pit is on its way to filling up and overflowing, I want as many opportunities to find out as quickly as possible. And we tested it -- it calls, emails, and texts instantly. Bravo! The Proteus AQUO is absolutely genius. I'm going to set up another one up by our huge hot water heater. I strongly recommend this product.

Outstanding Product and Customer Service!!!
After reading the reviews, I questioned the issue of 2.4MHz and 5 MHz internet bandwidth, as I have “pods” which I am told have makes my internet coverage a “mesh system”, thus it uses both bands. I spoke with a customer tech directly at Proteus (how refreshing to talk with a person!) and was informed that their unit was singularly 2.4MHz. My provider is Comcast (which is a whole story in itself trying to talk to a human) and found the following information: Why do I no longer see the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio band names of my network?Pods require that you only have one WiFi network name and password. Your network still has both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio bands, but now your Gateway will sort out the best connection at any given time for your devices. Keep in mind, you may need to reconnect devices to your WiFi name and password, if they were previously connected to a name designated for a single radio band.I ordered the Proteus AQUO WiFi Water Sensor – PSFD07 – with a 6-foot cord. It was extremely easy to set up, and after a variety of self-test exercises (water detected, unplugged (loss of power), power restored, the text and email notifications worked perfectly! I did make a typo in setting up the optional second field for power notifications but solved that by copying and pasting from the first field (to enable texting and emailing, and all is working just a described by Proteus.

Easy peasy, works best kind...
Super simple to install, easy to set up, works great. That's all that is needed from this kind of product. As mentioned by other reviewers, it's annoying that text messaging in Canada sucks, but that's on mobile monopolists and not on these fine folks who make this product. Keep up the good work! It might be good to develop/add some sort of cloud-to-cloud integration for these alerts into other home automation hubs (ie z-wave or Lutron or smartthings etc)

Easy to install, confusing description
The sensor feels solid and well built. Setup is very simple, just follow the quick srart guide. The power suply module can be disconnected, there is a USB-A connector for power. Can use other USB power supply if needed.Phone call notification arrive within a few secnds after water leak detected. Call cost 12 US cents per call.PLEASE NOTE: SMS/Text notifications are supported via your provider's email-to-SMS gateway. If you cellphone provider doesn't have email-to-SMS gateway, then SMS/text notifications cannot be used.

Great and better than the competition
Purchased this after my D-Link sensor stopped working after a couple years of use. The unit is tiny and has a much better sensor than the D-Link, with better options. Can be used to alert on wet or dry. Can alert via email and text, but be aware that text alerts rely on the email to text service of your mobile provider. Unit has its own local web server which you can access for current status information, as well as a cloud web service used for all configuration.

Read the instructions before setting up
Works great ... as tested the sensors with water and I was notified very quickly. I think the electric connection could be longer to reach a plug without using a extension cord..
