Works as advertised.
I needed to scan large format negatives and this product was suggested. The product is solidly built and provides bright light. It has allowed me to copy the negatives well.

It does its job but I'd like to see a higher build quality from Kodak.
I got this light box for looking at film strips and for tracing drawings/lettering. The light is totally flicker free and easy on the eyes so I have no complaints about the light quality, however as a whole this unit is a pretty cheaply made product. The power switch is a cheap little plastic slider on the side, with no markings to indicate which position is on or off. The edges of the plastic seams aren't smoothed very well. The power input is marked "DC 12V" even though it's powered by USB, which is 5V. The color temperature is fixed at about 5000K, which is good for viewing film/slides but I would prefer an adjustable color temperature so I could make it a warm white light for drawing with in the evenings when the rest of my room lighting is around 3200K. Since this is marketed also as a tracing light, I find the lack of an adjustable color temperature to be disappointing. There's also no brightness adjustment; it's plenty bright, but it would be nice if it were dimmable when you don't need quite so much light. The packaging is woefully inadequate for a product of this nature. The light box is stuffed in a thin bubble-wrap sleeve inside a thin cardboard box, and the problem is that any hard blow to the center of the box could potentially damage the LEDs and cause a hotspot, which is what happened with the first unit I received. The replacement unit I was sent was thankfully in good shape with an even illumination and no hotspots except for in the far corners, which I can live with. I suspect a lot of these will be returned due to shipping damage.I'm happy to see the Kodak brand releasing more products. This is not a bad light box but I would like to see a higher build quality and more features to justify the price tag.

A Very Good Product
Neat finishing, Even light end to end. Dimmer not necessary since i wanted Copy Negatives & that being a Flat surface not much DoF needed, can control shutter speed. Overall a very good product.

Kodak Led Light Box
Viewing old negatives made simple with this device. I expect to view and digitize about 500 negatives that otherwise would be lost.

Overpriced
I was dismayed when the Kodak LED light box showed up and I first opened it. This is a cheaply constructed light box with neither features nor build quality to justify its price. The entire device is a low grade plastic. The on-off switch is tiny and also low quality. I immediately filed for a return on the first one I received, as it had an LED hot spot in the middle of its screen - apparently an LED bead too close to the underside of the panel. I didn't open the device to see if the LEDs are actually individually mounted or COB, but would expect the former, given the hot spot. Also, any pressure on the panel, even quite light, will show more LED spots. The replacement arrived quickly ... but was worse, with an even larger, double spot! I opted for returning the replacement instead of the original as I will be working mostly with slides and I can work around the spot.On a more positive note, the illumination is good to very good. It is bright, the light quality is good, and the illumination is mostly even, with the barest fall-off in the corners.Packaging is a typical Kodak yellow & black box, but is minimal. The cardboard (cereal box type pasteboard, really) is thin, and the rest of the packaging consists of a very thin bubble wrap sleeve for the light box itself with the manual and USB cord tossed in loose. Both the original and replacement boxes arrived in rather beat-up condition, despite being delivered in a properly-sized, padded Amazon envelope, though the contents in both cases were obviously new.You are paying for the Kodak name, along with the description of the light quality, which I can only evaluate subjectively. I can tell you that I have other light boxes, also Chinese-made, that offer more features and much better build quality for the price. (These are for non-photography related purposes.)My need is relatively short-term for digitizing 35mm slides and some negatives. I'm sure the Kodak unit will suit for my use and timeframe. I don't think it will hold up for long-term use, however. For that, I would look for a more substantial unit with better electronics, baffling, and a water-clear hardened glass surface. The fixed color temp (5000k) and level of the Kodak box keeps things simple, but these are not as much of an advantage as you may think, as a lot of shots will still need color and exposure correction anyway. I would not suggest any of the Kodak light boxes except perhaps the largest model for medium format or larger.Disappointing and a poor value.

Good light quality for b&w and color
White slightly warm light (day light color) with good diffusion. I have too in different sizes and love them, both can also work with power banks for long hours. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this.

Arrived with severe bright spots - UPDATE
*1 Week Update*After a few days, the light spots have disappeared. Product works well, packaging could still be improved.*Original Review*Unfortunately my 5x4 light box arrived with multiple bright spots making it totally unusable for large portions. I may still be able to scan 35mm film in the centre, but it is very disappointing. Both Kodak and the shipper completely dropped the ball on packaging this item for transport. The flimsy device was packed naked in a cardboard box, and shipped in a bubble wrap sleeve. I suspect that is why it has the issues, although it is hard to say as the surface seems to still be flat.I expect better when this item is priced 2x the competition. The only reason I went with this light box was because it listed the color rendering index and was a trusted brand.
