The wheels do not spin freely as they are connected to the motor thru a significant ratio gear box.

Q: Can the wheels go backwards?

Whether this DC motor wheel can be backwards depends largely on your software control program, you can drive the dc motor and the robot wheel forward, or you can control the dc motor and the robot wheels backwards, and whatever you need it to do. Thank you.
