Great choice for 360-preferring players
I haven't been much of a fan of the Dual Shock since last gen, when both Nintendo and Microsoft put out controllers that finally dethroned the Dual Shock as king of the hill(granted Saturn's analog pad was better for some game types) - especially the Xbox's S Controller, which was refined for the 360. This controller is the answer to all of us who don't like the Dual Shock for any number of reasons: the weight, small size/shape, analog placement, triggers... all the best parts of the 360 controller have beeen made compatible for those of us who play primarily on 360 and for PS3 only owners looking to switch it up. The controller feels almost the same as the 360 controller; roughly the same shape and around the weight of the wired 360 controller, so it's a little heavier than the DS3. It has neat crosshatching texture on the grips and a smoothy, soft rubbery feel on the whole controller; it's very comfortable to hold for extended play. The analogs are reversed, with the left in the promary position where the d-pad is on the official controller, and the analogs have the dish shaped tops instead of Sony's mushrooms for a bit better grip and control. The L1/L2's are pretty much as squashy as the DS3 set, but the L2/R2 are much improved, and are now wide triggers, which is great, since most people with the Dual Shock will tell you you need to buy those little addon triggers to make them tolerable. Unlike the wired version by Power A, this one has SixAxis, so that's definitely a plus if you have games supporting it. I tested it with Uncharted 1 and Trash Panic, and it works well. As for the dead zone issues, maybe it's more apparent for people who play FPS, but I don't and had no aiming problems playing through Uncharted 2 on Crushing mode or with any other games like Yakuza 3 or Final Fantasy XIII-2. I would read other reviews if you are really concerned, but honestly the dead zone seems about as much as the 360 controller it's based on. The charge lasts a really long while before you have to plug it back up, but the cord they give you is really long, so playing while it's charging isn't a big deal either. Overall, I do think it's better than the Dual Shock, and it's cheaper too. If you're looking for a good alternate analog controller, this is the one to check out.

Why does this cheese grater look like an xbox controller?
This controller must have been designed by a team of orangutans. Big dumb ones with leathery hands that can't feel the pain of a thousand stabby things digging into their palms! The spiky grips are flat out painful if used for any more than 20 minutes. I cannot understand how this product made it through the design process and got approved. Its obvious no one at Power A actually held this thing or they would have had to have had a serious "wtf... aw hell no!" moment. I played some GOW III, NHL 11 and MW2 with this, trying to convince myself that it didn't completely suck. But lets face it folks when we lie to ourselves, deep down somewhere we know we're full of it. I could have overlooked springy joysticks. And the throw away d-pad. I could have even gotten over the weird, spongy trigger fail(also the trigger edges can't fit the ps3 trigger ad-ons for the DS3 controller). The 360 controller is far superior to DS3 in every area except d-pad. This controller is far superior to a turd in that it merely functions like a steaming pile of [...] instead of also smelling like one. Someone will hopefully, eventually get the 360 controller port right, but the nincompoops at Power A will not make the history books with this flawed, barely functional attempt. Giving this a strong DO NOT BUY, unless you feel like explaining to all your friends why your new paperweight looks like an xbox controller. The only astounding thing it managed to do was actually make me happy to hold my PS3 controller again, after I had to bandage my shredded, bleeding hands. All in all the experience was like cheating on your significant other with someone very hot and appealing, who winds up giving your hands syphilis... stay home and enjoy what you have kids.

the perfect solution to the ps3's unfortunate controller
i'm so relieved that i found this controller. i was so excited when i got my ps3 after years of owning an xbox360-- all the games i'd read about all these years were finally within my grasp. excitement soon turned to frustration (and cramping) when, after just a few hours of gameplay, i realized the limitations of sony's controller-- tiny size, unfortunately placed (and rounded) analog sticks, select and start buttons virtually unreachable behind said analog sticks, and tiny, rounded trigger buttons. i'd never given a single thought to my xbox360 controller, but now, set in stark relief against sony's, it's brilliant, intuitive design and sturdy construction really began to shine through. sometimes, after playing with the sony controller for a few hours, i would actually pick up my 360 controller and just appreciate how good it felt in my hands. when i searched amazon thinking that an xbox360 styled ps3 controller must exist, i found the pro elite. i quickly ordered it along with a copy of uncharted: drake's fortune. well, i just finished that game (about 10 hours of gameplay) using the pro elite, and i must say that i'm really quite impressed. there's none of the cheapness so often found with 3rd party peripherals. and the design is close enough to that of the 360's controller that it felt like slipping into an old pair of jeans. it's not exactly the same, though. the triggers aren't quite as pronounced, the textured "handles" feel pretty good but are sort of inconsequential, the d-pad feels a bit floaty (though don't they all), and it doesn't have quite as much heft to it, which i miss. the back-lit buttons look awesome, and are quite useful as i play in a darkened room much of the time. and the dead zone that you've most likely read about already is there, though to my eye it's not as huge as some have said and i didn't even notice it after a few minutes of game play. i admit, though, that i don't play a lot of shooters-- half-life, quake and turok are pretty much it for me. i'm planning on playing through the resistance series very soon, so maybe i'll make an addendum then. overall, this is a great controller, and a real godsend for those ps3 owners who are spoiled by the 360 controller, have large hands (as i do), or just appreciate non-poorly thought out controllers (yeah you, sony). the only thing that would make the pro elite better is if it were actually made by microsoft-- and i never thought i would utter those words within my lifetime. well done, Power A!

Great controller, but not perfect
Pro Elite Wireless Controller for PS3 Let me start out by saying that if you're one of the crazy people with baby hands out there who loves the Dual Shock 3, steer clear of this controller and stop reading this review. If you're like me, however, and you like to use a controller that doesn't add a barrier between you and the video games you love so much, continue on. I'll go on record and say that the Xbox 360 controller is the best controller ever designed by man (minus the horrific D-pad). It fits perfectly in the hands, all controls are within reach, triggers function flawlessly, etc. After a minute or two, you forget you're holding a controller and it stays that way until you put it down. The Dual Shock 3 controller is possibly the worst designed controller on this planet. I've heard people say that the N64 controller deserves that award, but I never owned an N64, so can't confirm or deny that. The Dual Shock 3's thumbsticks are awkwardly placed and seem to be coated with Teflon. The triggers are worthless (which explains why all games use L1 and R1 for shooting related duties). The controller itself is entirely too small, unless you have baby hands. Constant adjustment is required to attempt to keep it comfortable, although it's ultimately futile. Fingers are bunched up in the back due to lack of room. Pushing the L and R buttons requires super-dexterity if controlling the thumbsticks. I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, the person that designed the DS3 should probably be whipped with 1,000 USB cables. Along comes the Pro Elite Wireless Controller for PS3. They've essentially tried to copy the design of the 360 controller, although not quite to a T. Overall the controller feels pretty good in your hands. The matte black finish is nice. The build quality seems good. The left thumbstick is where it should be, off to the side. The face buttons have a nice backlight that can be turned on or off, a nice little touch. The triggers are infinitely better than on the DS3. Unfortunately, most games force you to use R1 to shoot and don't give an option to change that. It's pretty annoying having decent triggers at your disposal, and having no choice but to use the buttons above them to fire a gun. I wish Power A would have taken this into consideration and perhaps put switches on the controller allowing you to swap the 1s and 2s. The Pro Elite is definitely a win and a huge step up from the DS3, but it's not without flaws. I'm not a huge fan of the grip where your palms rest, but you get used to it. The placement of the right thumbstick is a little farther inside than it probably should be, making it a bit of a reach if you have smaller hands. The controller requires a dongle connected to the console, which seems silly, but maybe it's the only way to do it without Sony's blessing. This prevents you from turning the system on with the controller. It's a little bit on the light side. Some heft would make it feel a bit more solid, but that's a preference thing. Lastly, my biggest gripe is with the thumbsticks. The dead zones are a bit larger than they should be. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's definitely noticeable. In closing, if you like games and hate the DS3, based on my research it looks like this is probably the best you can get, short of building Ben Heck's PS360 controller (or better yet, paying him to do it). Some slight modifications on the design, fixing the dead zone issues and making it Bluetooth and this controller would be a perfect 10. As of right now, though, it's only about an 8. Which is still good, but not perfect.

Good controller but the sticks are somewhat stiff.
This is Ok controller, buttons are good, design and ergonomics, the grip, wich a lot of people say is annoying, i didn't find it at all. The main issue is sticks and d pad, the sticks are stiff and have pretty big dead zone, so for playing shooters is just not good at all, you can't aim, is way harder than with a ps3 controller. So with that in mind i started using it for other games, say, Dark Souls, and in this one, as aiming is minimal, performance is better, but still, there is an issue with the d pad. When pressing down or up on the d pad, about 3 of 5 times, it also press left or right. Maybe is that i have big fingers, but this never before happened withe the ps3 controller, so i think is the size and design of this one. With that in mind, i would say buy it... IF you plan on playing rpgs, or games that don't require precision aiming, wich aren't many these days.

Insensitive Controls
I would self-identify myself as a hardcore gamer and after reading many reviews I decided to buy this controller. I really dislike the joystick layout of the PS3 controller so i was hoping this would replicate the 360 controller's feel. While it feels well built and is cheap it does have a major flaw. The complaints of dead zones are true unfortunately. Its weird to see people disagreeing on such a simple and easy thing to identify. Its true, not only do the analogue sticks have big deadzones but so do the triggers. This makes the controller pretty difficult to use for competitive play. If you play COD or racing games a lot and like to win, dont buy this controller. you lose far to much sensitivity because the deadzone is quite large, id say around 20 degrees. The triggers are bad too, and i have to consciously remind myself to push down more on them and its casued problems with even the simplest games. Just to quickly go over the other features: The grip is fine, it feels good and only hurts if you squeeze the controller very tightly. The rumble is a bit strong for my taste. The six-axis controls work just as good as sony brand controllers. The glowing buttons are nice but hardly worth the flaws, and they are hardly necessary. The charging/receiver dongle is quite spiffy and includes a nice length mini-usb cable. The analogue sticks have a really unique coating, they have more grip to them than any other controller ive used, they almost feel like glue. Overall its very disappointing they controls are so insensitive because otherwise this would be a great controller. Ill keep it just to have a second one so people can play split screen. Would not recommend this as a primary/daily controller.

Best offbrand controller that i have used for PS3
After reading over the reviews i thought i would try this controller out. I let it fully charge and i read the instructions and synced it to the PS3. I must say i am surprised with how good it works, i have used it for 3 days playing Gran Turismo 5 and i am very happy with the results. I really enjoy the xbox 360 feel to it and not getting thumb cramps. Or the PS3 'CLAW'. I give it 5 stars because it is the best feeling controller for the PS3 that i have used. Compared to the toggles on a PS3 controller, there is a very slight dead spot, but it is so slight that after you get used to using the Power A controller, you dont notice it. You can make smooth turns, hold the racing line. Also with the xbox 360 toggle layout and the dip in the top of the toggle, compared to the PS3 toggle with the hump, it feels like you have more control. I am very happy with my Power A controller. Update as of 2/7/2011 , after playing Gran Turismo 5 for awhile and playing the Killzone 3 Beta. I am very impressed with the Pro Elite. Even with the default sensitivity settings of 30% with the Killzone 3 Beta ,it works great. I know with alot of games you can adjust your sensitivity, i think more people should think about making the right adjustments in game , make sure the controller is charged and synced to their system. I give the Power A Pro Elite a A plus. Its the best none sony controller out there with the xbox layout. Update as of 3/11/2011. After playing Killzone 3 and Call of duty Black Ops with this controller, I love the controller even more. My advice to anyone who buys one of these controllers and it ends up having a HUGE dead spot in the stick movement sensitivity, return it for another one. Some of us do not have this problem and the controller works great. Update, its 8/17/11 and the controller is still working great. Update ,11/27/11, controller still works great, i have played ,Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, Black Ops, BF3, and currently playing MW3 every day with the Power A controller. i am so happy with it i am going to buy a second one.

AFTER 2 MONTHS IT FAILED! (EDITED)
I thought it was gonna be a cheap-made controller but NO! It was totally worth it, and when I tried and Use it on my PC worked great! now I can play my favorite games on PS3 and PC with a single wireless controller!!! It's not as confortable as using the PS3 controller, if you want to be the 2nd,3rd or 4th player, the reciever's gotta be unplugged at least until the other PS3 Controllers are linked to the PS3 console. October 27th, 2011 I am very dissapointed the right stick does not work for shooting-like games, It get's stucked and sometimes doesn't respond. The buttons get stucked too. VERY DISSAPOINTED. Good thing: The costumer service is great, they answered the e-mail I sent them, and they sent a replacement NO QUESTIONS ASKED! It's about to come in the mail this week, I'll re-edit the review then.

La batería no funciona
El mando tiene un diseño y acabados muy buenos, además es muy cómodo. El problema es que no se enciende si no está enchufado, lo dejé toda la noche cargando pero sigue sin encenderse. Una pena que no se haya solucionado este problema.

Brilliant!
The controller is great and works amazing for PC play. You do however need to download an emulator like motionjoy but just look at a youtube video to sort that out, its so easy. The controller works as a 360 one, and works amazingly with Steams big picture and normal modes. It's my favourite controller, the grips are great and I don't find myself sweating with it. It's shaped like a 360 controller, works on the PC and PS3. Also, wireless is great, I havn't tested the distance on the controller to the adapter, but it reaches across a room with ease, no lag or disconnection. Seriously, I dont understand why people rage about this controller when they are talking about games such as FPS, the sensitivity for a game is set in the GAMES SETTINGS. It's not the controller, the sensitivity is the same for ALL controllers until changed in the Game - Control settings for every game. 5/5 Easily.

Pad Fantastico

BEST PS3 CONTROLLER EVER !
Ive had a lot of third party controllers over the years, but this POWER A PRO ELIT controller is the best PS3 controller you will ever buy and its not even expensive. I wasn't aware that Power A makes such excellent quality controllers { Thumbs Up Power A }. Its just like an Xbox 360 controller in shape, feel and the button and 2 toggle layouts. The 4 action buttons light up a pretty RED or you can turn them off . The dongle ( wireless USB piece is easy to set up -5 seconds ) and it comes with a cord if you desire being tethered to the PS3. It took about 3 hours to charge the battery in the controller (Use the PS3 or any USB port will do ) and the charge last about the same as the Xbox 360 or PS3 controller battery life. The response on this controller is far better than any Xbox 360 or PS3 controller made to date, and the front triggers are a blessing in both shape and in response. Dont hesitate buy one today if you own a PS3.
