would this work to just add boiling water for places without a microwave like camping?

Rice-A-Roni cups are not designed to be cooked using boiling water. However, if a microwave is unavailable and a steep method is to be applied, you can peel the lid halfway, add ½ cup of boiling water, place the lid back on and hold it down with a utensil, steep it for 15 minutes until water is absorbed and rice is tender.

Must the be used in microwave only? Or can I add boiling water to it instead?

I have added boiling water to the cup and then put a saucer over the top as a lid and let it sit until done. Worked pretty well! I have also used the microwave method and they come out similarly. Hope this helps! :-)
