Excellent speaker with good low end and clarity
This is an excellent Bluetooth speaker if you are looking for a Bose-type replacement at a great price. I had the original generation Bose SoundLink, but it became a paperweight due to the battery no longer holding charge (and not working off a cable either). This Earfun UBoom L has a similar sound profile at lower volumes, offers great Bluetooth connectivity, and has clear, believable sound listening in small spaces or at low or moderate volumes. I'm not a sound engineer or audio expert, but from my interest in stereo and guitar equipment, I became aware of something called the Fletcher-Munson Effect. Basically, the human ear is more sensitive to mid-range frequencies (roughly between 2kHz and 5kHz). This means that lower volumes, the sound you are perceive will seem to have less bass than if the same EQ were applied at a louder volume. As a result, manufacturers of small-format speakers figured out that you need to boost certain frequencies at low volumes and generally reshape the EQ for your ears to perceive what would be a "flat" setting at a louder volume. Bose was a pioneer in popularizing this concept, but it's widely used in all types of affordable Bluetooth speakers, and the UBoom L is a great example of that. It sounds great out of the box, but with a phone app, you can apply special indoor and outdoor EQ settings from a sound engineer named "Oluv". If you're like me and frequently use Bluetooth speakers to play background music at very low volumes (while working, studying, or just for general ambience), then you'll appreciate this. There was a whole "Beats vs. Bose" thing about 15 years ago where people became obsessed with having as much bass as possible. Similar to a Bose unit, the UBoom L has plenty of low end, but with the Oluv EQ, it retains clarity and does not overwhelm the other frequencies. I will say that there is plenty of low end in this speaker, and there are presets and custom EQ's you can play with if you prefer a bassier sound. The internal battery charges with a USB-C cable, and I appreciated that they included an AUX jack. Some of these speakers are great to use with other audio equipment and instruments that either do not have Bluetooth, or would suffer from latency. There are plenty of great budget and premium Bluetooth speaker options nowadays, but this is a great all-around product. UPDATE (08/20/25): Need to make a slight correction to my review above - the UBoom L has a significant latency (audio delay between input and sound playing through speaker) when using the AUX 3.5mm jack. Apparently, this is a common issue not just with the Earfun units, specifically, but with most Bluetooth speakers that use any type of digital processing or EQ to produce sound. The latency is significant - around 250 milliseconds, I believe - which is far too large to use it effectively to play sound from any instrument. However, since this is a very "niche" use of this otherwise excellent Bluetooth speaker, I am not downgrading my review score.

Reigns As The Best Value Speaker In It’s Class A+
There seems to be some mixed reviews on this $50 speaker (on Prime Day Special), but considering everything, it far exceeds other sneakers of its size, price in my opinion. For reference, I’m no audiophile but have a hobby in collecting/finding the best quality Bluetooth speakers as I love music. I bought a $150 Bose Flex 2 Soundlink as well to compare (as they’re similar in size) and while they have different sound signatures, the Earfun seems to have a more comprehensive, balanced, full sound that I prefer (after downloading the app and setting the speaker to Oluv’s EQ tuning). Initially out of the box, the speaker sounded decent (but agree with other reviews, slightly muddy) but it wasn’t until getting the app and applying Oluv’s EQ preset until the speaker really shined. The separation between the highs, mids, lows, punchy yet tight bass came through when comparing various genres. I was somewhat doubtful and hesitant initially about the hype & when purchasing said to myself “if it’s not that good then I’ll just return it and keep the Bose” but after some initial testing will be happily keeping this Earfun and saving myself the $100 & returning the Bose :) of course, there will be some subjective taste/preference and some may prefer Bose’s signature sound but after comparison Bose’s sound seems more compressed, artificial vs Earfun comes through more naturally, full and wide. No connectivity issues for me so far, speaker pairs well and the Bluetooth connection is stable. Hopefully this review is helpful on your decision and if anything, $50 for this speaker is an absolute deal! Cheers As a side reference, based on my personal Bluetooth speaker journey I’ve come to keep: -for the best compact speaker, the Tribit Stormbox Micro -the best portable speaker with insane bass response, Harmon Kardon Onyx -most clear/open sound stage, the B&O Beosound -best value well rounded compact speaker, the Earfun Uboom L :)

Speaker with versatile Indoor/Outdoor tuning. Tuned by Oluv.
EDIT: I’ve slightly updated this review, because I ended up purchasing another speaker for stereo sound. I own two of the original UBOOM’s. This new larger UBOOM L has a different form factor and sounds much better tuned by Oluv. Keep in mind everyone’s ear is different. My ear wants bass, but I don’t want bass that is boomy and that takes away from overall clarity. Oluv’s tuning does two things in my opinion. Indoor Mode allows you to listen in your home and even at very low levels. You won’t disturb your neighbors in an apartment setting and you can still enjoy full and balanced sound at lower volume settings. The bass is there, but it’s not boomy bass. Maybe a bass head won’t like that? Personally, I’m not a fan of boomy bass that overwhelms the clarity of the music. If you want a little more bass, Outdoor Mode is the way to go. There’s more bass in that mode, but still tuned so it doesn’t overwhelm everything. Oluv gave people choices here, which I like. I see myself using both modes, when it’s appropriate in my environment and still have balanced tuning either way at any volume level. I ended up purchasing two of these speakers for stereo sound. There’s plenty of volume with one speaker, but the L/R stereo separation playing two together is so worth it in my opinion. Overall this an excellent speaker, at a great price point. The UBOOM L gives you the performance and sound of much more costly speakers. There are plenty of Bluetooth speakers released without much thought to tuning. Some have too much bass and others too much treble. This tuning is balanced and neutral. I like that Oluv collaborated with Earfun. I hope he does more of this in the future. In regards to the firmware. It can be found at Earfun’s website under Support/Product Guides, then click on UBOOM L. Just download the media product tool, firmware and instructions. It’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have a USB-C data cable. Less than a minute to run the update. After the update, forget the device in your Bluetooth settings and reconnect. I’ve attached photos and a video clip of the speakers connected in Stereo playing a track from the Spotify playlist of NCS/NoCopyrightSounds. They’re playing in Indoor Mode. Please use your headphone’s or ear bud’s to listen. (If you listen with a mobile device or tablet, you won’t get the full effect). You can hear the combination of clarity, bass and stereo separation in the video. I hope this video helps. I would definitely recommend giving this speaker a try. Good for around $50, if more than $50 - consider buying something else.
Good for around $50, if more than $50 - consider buying something else. Sound is good. Came with firmware 0.50. It sounded good. Tried 0.43, 0.48 - they sound a little bit different. Can not say that 0.4x sound better. 0.50 has more bass, sounds louder. Volume is more than enough for home use. Battery lasts around 10 hours using medium volume. It has a strong plastic smell that does not go away even month later. Connecting to devices is not easy as I would like it to be - sometimes it does not work or takes some time to connect. Using multiple devices (one after another) also does not work flawlessly - sometimes you need to "forget" it on previous device for it to connect to new device or reset the Speaker. Without "video" mode ON there is a significant delay - not good for video watching, PC use or similar. With "video" mode ON it is OK to watch video or use with PC. Sometimes it may randomly produce cracking sound - not sure why. With "video" mode ON it happens even more often. Overall it is a good speaker (for $50).

Great Unit - Good value - Not for Everyone
I over-research stuff, yet reading reviews is maddening. You think you've found a good item, and then you read the 1-star reviews. Well, to cut to the chase, I wasn't going to spend this much money (even w/coupon) and was going to get a ~$20 unit. I've got "real speakers" all over the house and back yard, so this is just for portability. Anyway, I took the plunge on this one based on everything I could put together from Reddit, enthusiast publications, and these reviews. I'm glad I did. Fakespot pans the review quality here, but I ain't no 'bot, so here's a short story: - Build quality is solid (see teardown videos on Youtube/unit has some heft/even the packaging is nice) - Sound quality is really good (subjective I know, but there's some Youtube comparisons out there and you can geek out on frequency response charts on Reddit) Cons: If you want the best sound out of it, re-flash the firmware down one revision. Not that the firmware it's now shipped with is bad (v5.0), but the last version (v4.8) has more neutral frequency response. You can find the charts if you want to deep dive. Well, you have to geek out a bit if you're going to flash firmware. It's not hard, and you can find everything you need by searching for "Earfun Uboom L" and spending a little time. I just reflashed the firmware on mine from 5.0 to 4.8 and it didn't take very long at all. YMMV. The only other thing I might note is the control buttons aren't illuminated or even painted. The on/off, bluetooth, volume, etc. buttons are embossed black rubber...not a visual standout so you may be getting close to the unit to read them until you're familiar with it. Lastly, there's no carry lanyard or some such if that is a factor in your search. All in all, I think this thing puts out excellent sound for the money. It's definitely in a whole different league from the $20 units I was looking at. But! (There's always a "but" isn't there?), if you're hung up on the firmware thing - specifically if you don't think it sounds as good with v5.0 that is loaded currently, AND messing w/computers, utility programs, and cables is not for you, then you might want to spend more bucks (maybe double?) on another unit. As noted, you can find the instructions on line and see if you'd want to do it. Sorry for not putting links to all these references, but I found 'em pretty quickly so if you're interested, you won't have a problem finding more info than you'll need. As noted, I'm quite happy with it despite the caveats. I have zero buyer's remorse on this one. And as for the quality of product reviews, if I were a 'bot, would I know who won the 1938 World Series? Oh wait, that's the question they ask in those bad WWII movies to find the spy...

Quality sound but lacks some oomph to fill the room. Lackluster controls and design.
Quality sound but lacking some oomph. Would be good for all day listening where you want good sounding music that can still be talked over. The bass is very clear and defined but not very powerful, it feels "tuned" like they are eking out every bit of bass such a little speaker can provide. It is not absent like other cheap speakers, just not full and booming either. The mids and trebles are clear and sound good. Overall it sounds good, but it's not going to drive a party or even a solo dance session. This would be good for background music at a gathering (quality sound at low volumes) or just background sound around the home or workplace. I compared it to two Jlab speakers (Jbuds portable party and Go Party). The Jbuds definitely pack a bassier punch and even the full spectrum of sound fills the room better BUT it sounds slightly worse. Similar story with the Go Party (but at half the price, it may be the better value unless you really value the uniquely defined bass of the Uboom) Also boring black design even the buttons are hard to see. It really stands out compared to the Jlab RGB lights and volume knob. Having an indoor and outdoor mode is weird, especially since most reviews say outdoor mode is better. I couldn't tell a huge difference (tested indoors only). Box contains the speaker but no manual or instructions. I'm not even sure what all the buttons do.

Great speaker!! Highly recommend it!!
What I like: Great sound Bluetooth 5.0 Driver layout Build quality USB C Video mode Indoor/Outdoor modes ip67 rating What I don’t like: No app support No carrying strap Firmware update can be tricky The EarFun UBoom L has became one of my new favorite speakers . I am so glad EarFun finally made another speaker. The company was definitely lacking another speaker since the EarFun go was discontinued and the original UBoom is now three years old. It was definitely time for a new speaker from such a great company that produces great sounding earbuds that I love and always have a set on me for daily listening. When I first found out about this speaker and discovered it was tuned my the great Olaf from Oluvs gadgets I knew I had to own one. When the speaker arrived to me it came in a JBL style box and inside you will find the speaker, and owners manual and a USB c cable. I immediately took the speaker out of the box and after several attempts and a replacement speaker, I was able to update the firmware on my original speaker. The speaker looks great and has a great layout and design, it reminds me of a center channel you would have in a 5.1 sound system at your home. The only disappointment I have is I wish it had a lanyard or carrying strap since this speaker doesn’t weigh as much as my JBL Charge 4. On the top you will find a power button, Bluetooth button, minus button, multifunction button, plus button and, indoor/outdoor button and battery indicator lights. On the back of the speaker you will find a rubber flap which protects the usb c charging port and aux in port and on the sides of the speaker is where you will find two JBL style passive radiators and on the front you will find a mesh grill with the EarFun logo and under is two 55 millimeter 14 watt drivers which together produce 28 watts total power which is 4 watts more than the original uBoom which only produced 24 watts total power it also has a 16 hour battery life. Now let’s move on to how it sounds. After several hours of listening to this speaker I have to say I’m impressed. The treble, mids and, lows all sound natural not overbearing on indoor mode and when you switch to outdoor mode, you get a boost in all aspects with bass, mids and, highs. Everything sounds crisp although I believe tweeters could have assisted with off axis listening and the sound dispersion. Olaf nailed it with being able to listen on any aspect and get the same result with sound. Phone calls are also clear on this speaker, the built in mic does a great job picking up my voice on phone calls and accessing Siri or google assistant. Overall I am impressed with this speaker, just wish they had some tweeters or app support with EQ settings you can toggle such as Oluv Signature tuning, Bass boost, custom EQ.

Disappointed, no bass, mid & highs are sharp and unpleasant, sound distorted at 70% volume.
I had a lot of Bluetooth speakers and get new ones to check out what's better. I bought this because Olv's youtube channel, I liked some of his videos and he tuned this speaker so I thought to try it out. His firmware is 043, but this one is on 050 made by earfun, so it is not his tuning. The sound is ok, compared to other speakers especially the new bose one, this has no lower bass, the mids and highs are sharp, thin and unpleasant to listen to for more than 5 mins. At 70% volumes & outdoor mode turned on, it distorts and has no stereo separation. Its pretty good for instrumental music, but trash for pop & Jazz. With a custom EQ, turned up bass & lowered mids it sounds better, in a few songs the lower bass does come through so idk what's wrong but the lower bass is just not there most of the time. I don't think its worth the time to go through hoops to get a slightly better sound. Bose is actually so much better than this and most other speakers, fantastic bass & clear mids & highs, which surprised me as their older speakers weren't that great. The JBL is loud, has a V-shaped EQ so not bad either. For the half the price of bose and JBL this is not bad, but its not really portable (no hook/loops to attach a carabiner), and I would not recommend this for most people.

Not great
Latency when watching video is too high, even with the video mode enabled. Sound is ok but not great. Low on bass and general crispness of the sound. Volume controls directly control your devices audio, which i dont like because i cant control the sound volume as finely as id like. Ok build quality, ok price. Got this one because reviews where good. I do not agree and will not get a second unit as planned to try the stereo function.

Buy it. You'll be happy.
Excellent speaker and for the price, you won't be disappointed in the slightest. The equaliser takes a little playing around with, to get the best solution for your own ear preferences and the specific situation/room/ambience you are using the speaker in. I have had it for about 1 week. It seems to hold all frequencies of sound and clarity of music/vocals extremely well over any volume from low to max. I have a few other speakers and I feel this trumps the other ones for all-round quality of sound and is much more attractively priced. Good bang for your buck. I like it that much, that I am going to buy a second one so that I can pair them. It doesn't have a powerbank (no biggy), but it has a built in mic which is amazingly helpful for taking calls handsfree and the other person can hear you very clearly. Can't comment on durability yet as I haven't dropped it, or had it playing outside in the heat for any length of time. However, it looks and feels like it is solidly and professionally constructed. You can hold it in your hand easily, it's not too heavy. However, it could do with a wriststrap just for added convenience. I prefer it in all respects (price, quality of sound, loudness, features) over my comparable market bracket JBL Flip 2 and JBL Charge 6 speakers.

Excelente
