Q: distance between wheel and bolt? The clearance I need to feed the cable through is 1/2. Last pulley I bought only had a clearance of 1/4

If you consider the depth of the grove in the wheel it is 1/4" to the most outer ridge on either side. Then you have at least another 1/2 " from the most outer ridge to the bolt. I used a 1/4" bungee elastic cord and it fit in the wheel groove perfectly giving me another at leas 1/2" clearance to the bolt. I actually removed that eyelet bolt and replaced it with a lag bolt in order to screw it into a 2x6 " board so it remained fixed. You would not be able to run a rope much greater than 1/4 " in diameter and expect it to remain in the wheel groove. A rope greater in diameter ie 1/2" will not seat in that groove and thus will jump out of the groove and bind up between bracket and outer wheel surface unless a very firm rope but still it would not seat. Built for 1/4" diameter cable of what ever material.
