DOA, but....
This appears to be a good light that will work well as a replacement for the Circline fixture we now have on our kitchen ceiling. Unfortunately, it arrived DOA so I gave it two stars. In a way it's fortunate this is a common problem that has been reported by others. Because I read those reviews, I rigged up a line cord and tested it before installing and sure enough, it didn't work. As you can see from the attached photo, one of the soldered leads had broken loose. Momentarily touching that lead to the J1 terminal made the fixture work so rather than return it I soldered the lead back into place and retested it. Now it works fine. That's OK I guess, but should customers have to repair a brand new fixture before they can use it? As others have observed, the root problem is very apparent and easily fixed - the manufacturer does not fully assemble the fixture. Instead, the sheet metal wiring cover (trough) is left loose to bang around inside the fixture during shipping. Frankly, it's a surprise there isn't more damage. So unless you have the correct tools for the work, are comfortable resoldering small connections and are willing to risk voiding your warranty, it's probably best to buy a different fixture, one made by a manufacturer who fully assembles it or at least temporarily secures the trough for shipping.

It Needs a certain expensive dimmer
This item, Lithonia LBL4 was supplied by Amazon Warehouse at a much reduced price. It was stated that it had minor scratches. Upon inspection it had the minor scratches and a 2 1/2" crack in the plastic lens. Also there was serious sheet-metal distortion that had to be straightened. That was the easy part. Installation in my kitchen ceiling was relatively easy. The lamp fired right up and is very bright (3500K). Now the hard part - Decided I needed a dimmer for it and I patted myself on the back for thinking ahead and getting a DIMMABLE fixture. After a trip to Home Depot and dropping another $25 I thought that should do it, but no. Even though the Dimmer claims to be for all types of bulbs it does not work on THIS TYPE of LED. Going to Lithonia's website yielded a list of "approved" dimmers. But, after talking with the manufacture's reps for Lithonia and Lutron (1) There is an error in the Lithonia list of "approved" dimmers and (2) Only dimmers that have (0-10v) in their part # will work without an additional relay ($50) and re-wiring in the wall!! So, here is what the reps agree on - LUTRON Diva part # DVSTV (0-10v), $54.76 on Amazon or DVSTV-453P (0-10v) will work. Note: Diva DVTV (0-10v) is an error and will not work according to the LUTRON rep. Home Depot took the return, but I am not sure that I want to spend another $55 on a dimmer. If I can find one for half that price then maybe.

Too yellow for shop work
Good light for the right application. Arrived quickly and in good condition. Problem was, I did not do adequate research. I ordered 6 of these to replace old fluorescents for a workshop/garage area. Although they are 4,000 lumens, which should have been bright enough to replace my fluorescents, they seemed dull and not bright. Turns out they are 3,500 Kelvin color temperature, which is very yellow and not suitable for a shop where you need brighter light. I also ordered two Lithonia FMLSL 14 20840 M4 Square 14-Inch LED Flush Mount Lights for inside the house. Although they are only 1,600 lumen, the two of them together are much brighter (at only 3,200 total lumen) than a single 4,000 lumen 4-Foot Commercial. The lower lumen lights are 4,000 Kelvin and seem much brighter. So if you need bright light to work by, don’t just base your decision on lumens. Make sure the Kelvin is 4k or higher.

Works Very Well - Provides as Much Light as a 160 Watt Fluorescent Light
I believe that the company responded to some earlier reviews regarding the connections and packaging. The connections were robust; so when I tested it upon receipt, it worked fine. This 1 ft X 4 ft LED light replaces a 2 ft X 4 ft fluorescent light. Although I bought a sing LED single, I was prepared to buy another if the brightness wasn't sufficient. Happily, the single LED light gave off as much light (if not more) than the 2 ft X 4 ft fluorescent, which had four 40 Watt bulbs. The installation was straightforward, with the normal challenges of working above one's head. The wires passed through a punch-through hole in the middle of the light fixture. I chose to use wire nuts rather than use the supplied connector within the unit (I simply cut it off). The pass-through holes for the fastening screws were at the same location as in the fluorescent light, so I didn't need to drill new holes in the ceiling.Note: Typically, the fluorescent light that this is replacing is fastened to the ceiling with "butterfly" or "molly" bolts. So, when you unscrew the screws the "butterfly" will probably get lost within the ceiling. You can try to get it out, but you might mess up the hole & need to do extra spackling. That's your call. All I did was get two more "butterfly" bolts at the hardware store before I did the installation. (Take the screws with you so that you can get the right size.).All in all, this is a fine light & I would recommend it highly either for a new installation or retrofit.
