I used to build a lot off PCs for friends and family when I was young and I’ve learned quite a lot from it. These days, computers come all assembled and ready to go. I wanted to share some of the building experiences with my daughter since she loves to build legos and have an interests for STEM. This raspberry Pi kit was exactly what I was looking for.I spent the weekend putting this together with my daughter and setting it up to do home automation. It was a pretty fun project. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. I let her connect most of the parts and even download the latest noobs to get going. It was pretty easy overall and my 11 year old was able to do it. I did have to setup some home automation accounts for her, but overall not too bad.This raspberry pi is pretty powerful for such a small device. It is powered by USB C and there’s a power switch on the cable itself. It’s got 8GB of ram which is a lot for such a small system. What I like about it is that it’s really power efficient. This way we can leave it on all the time. The mini HDMI can drive my 4k monitor with ease. It has two mini HDMI port for dual screen, but I only need one. There are also a bunch of USB ports which made it easy to use with our existing devices. I’m glad it worked out smoothly and my daughter enjoyed the process. She’s already planning on hooking it up to automatically detect our indoor plants moisture level and automatically water them when low.

Was able to put it together in about ten minutes…because I didn’t look at the instructions. Haha. Could have probably done it in five. Great quality case, and it comes with superior copper heat sinks and an extra fan. Since you can wire this for low speed fan and high speed fan, I think I’m probably going to end up mounting the second fan, too. Will definitely have to 3D print a bigger case for that, though.Pi4 is powerful enough as is to run most of the games I want to play, but with these cooling options I will absolutely be overclocking it to play a bit of harder to emulate stuff…hopefully some PSP. Really pumped about it.With prices as they are, you get a darn good setup with this kit. Having an absolute blast with it, and I’m ready to do some modding.
