i bought a pair and when i use them everyone complains i sound like i'm in a bucket. Is that standard for these, or do i have a bad set?

I would go with a bad set. Both my friend and I have set that we use at work for teams and zoom calks. No issues.

Would it work for work from home jobs?

I work from home, it works fine. Quality isn’t great.

I've read about the flip up/down. Does this work with any phone? I just bought a Panasonic base phone for home.

I would assume it is phone independent and is based upon Bluetooth connectivity. It works great with my iPhone 13

Will the microphone work normally if used with a cable (wired connection)?
