great story of new love and happiness
Love how the story continues on. Great to find out about how things started. Great to catch up with the family on their everyday schedule. Love how the girls scheme and come up with plans to save their dad.

addictive excellent book for YA
Loved it and am looking forward to whole series. Quick read - secular but with family values, no profanity- G rated. Would make great TV series

Another heartwarming Penderwick tale!
Birdsall manages, yet again, to write a charming, timeless tale about family, honesty, friendship, and love. The four Penderwick sisters each have their own plots and arcs throughout the book, but must always come together to deal with the main plot of this sequel - that their father has started to date (which, I think it's only fair to point out that the dating is not the father's idea. He is, in fact, quite reluctant, and it is only because of a letter that his wife wrote for him before her death that he agrees to it).The only downsides were that I didn't feel that this book had quite the same endearing charm and fanciful feeling as the first, and a few of the plot points were pretty predictable. However, I did find my self intrigued by the story and the storytelling. And just as the first book, it is so wonderful to have a story where siblings not only get along, but love each other and help each other, and where parents and children talk to each other like equals and honestly respect and care about each other.I hope Birdsall will delight us with even more stories - Penderwick and otherwise.

Favorite book ever
I am now 12 yrs old and this book is still my fav. My mom read ithe series to me first when I was 4. I hope everyone thought that this book was as mgical as I did. Those who did not, I hope you're happy now b/c this book is even better than freaking Harry Potter which is super duper good. I am a huge fan and I hope she comes out with a 6th book soon. Love, The penderwicks fan

I loved this book so much!
It was a great book, however, I didn't like that it mentioned goddesses. But overall, this is one of my favorite books ever! β€π

Love this family!
I can't express how much I love the Penderwicks! This whimsical family got me through a tough recuperation from recent knee surgery and reminded me of beloved books I read as a child. Like Noel Streatfield's "Shoes" and Edward Eager's "Half Magic" series, I was entranced by the Penderwick family from the first page to the last. It's no small achievement for an author to create an unforgettable family that is old-fashioned, yet with modern sensibilities. Hats off to the inimitable Jeanne Birdsall, whose three books kept me happily distracted while recuperating. Then I bought all three books for my granddaughter. I can't wait to read them together with her. Just one question -- when is the next Penderwick book coming out?

I
I disliked parts when Ben says duck. I would recommended this book to my friends and some in particular. I rated this book 5 because it has things in it that other books donβt have, like action, arguments, and romance and one thing my sister likes is the part at the beginning when Mr's Penderwick dies.π

What A Refreshingly Excellent Story!
I decided to skim through a few of the Penderwick books to preview and see if they were appropriate for my ten year old grand daughter. The Penderwick family has me completely captivated. The four sisters and their dad are fully developed, very individual, extremely likable characters. I ended up not skimming, but devouring two of these fast paced and richly conceived adventures. I will read them all with great pleasure. Each book captures a season in the life of this charmingly wholesome and robust family whose mother has died of cancer. My grand daughter will enjoy them also, I am sure.

A vintage style read.
An old fashioned style of book which my class enjoyed reading ( YEAR 4). It is suitable for year 3 up.
