Great unit…we also hacked a solution to make it work with vertical windows that hinge on the side
So far so good! I had never heard of this brand, but while researching learned that this had been reviewed favorably on several reputable sites, so I gave it a chance. The idea that we can control it with our iPhones was a plus…we frequently lose remote controls. However, most of the other units on Amazon are from random Chinese companies, and I’m a little antsy about allowing access to our network for companies that have weird names like “HOXHA,” “EUHOMY,” and “GAOHOM” or whatever. The only issue I ran into is that we have windows that open like a refrigerator, which are common in the mountains, and the adapters are for a regular window or a sliding door. I was able to fit the generously sized, adjustable panels into our windows, although it’s open at the top and bottom. I have a laser cutter, so I’m going to make a custom insert out of clear acrylic that has triangles at the top and bottom to block external air from coming in, and I’ll use my 3D printer to create clips to hold the panels in place (I’ll put these up on Thingiverse for free when I’m done). A small price to pay for a comfortable night’s sleep. It did look like we would be able to use the panel vertically with the included sliding door adapter, but there’s not enough room on the sides because the adapter protrudes and interfered with the angled window. Also, the blocking panel has a hole for the large hose, but it’s too low…with the hose installed, you can’t operate the opening mechanism on the window. Whynter, if you’re watching these reviews, you might consider moving the hole for the hose about 4-5” from the edge; it would still work for sliding and horizontal configurations, but would raise it for our type of windows.I was pleased that even with the top and bottom open, the AC easily and quickly cooled our room. Our bedroom is maybe 16’x14’ or 18’x14’ (about 250 ft). Looks like we could also open up our en suite bathroom and cool it as well.

Best portable air conditioner you can buy. Full stop
This is my second Whytner portable ac , 5 years ago I purchased an arc 14sh which I still use to cool and heat my garage, it runs great. This unit is a significant upgrade. Amazingly quiet, the hose in hose design is sweet and and it is quite compact for a 14000 btu AC. The control panel is easy to read, the remote is excellent as well as the fact that the remote has its own thermostat onboard so you can set the temp from that rather than the temp sensor in the ac itself…clever. Great wheels, easy to move. The hose coming out of the back is awesome my only critique is the window kit, which as with all AC units is a bit hokie, needs quite a bit of futzing with and duct taping, I ended up making my own out of plywood as I have odd windows. I could not believe the low price Amazon charged for the unit with heat, less than the cooling only. If you have never used one of these for heating on not that super cold of days (ie around 35 or so degrees) heat pumps are the most energy efficient heat you can make. I used my arc14sh all winter to heat a 750 sq foot apt in lieu of electric baseboard heat. My neighbors were paying 150 a month in electricity for heat I was paying 45-50. So if you have the chance to buy this unit do so. You won’t regret it. Whytner makes high quality refrigeration products, I also use their ice cream maker in a professional kitchen and beat the hell out of it and have done so for three years no problem. Call me a fanboy

Very Pleased with The Performance of This Unit
I am very pleased with this unit. It moves a lot of air. I tried a smaller unit and returned it before I invested in this one. It cools for the square footage that it is advertised to work. I am using it in a room that is approximately 450 square feet. It is reducing the temperature in the room on a 95 degree day and holding that temperature at 70 degrees. As a rule of thumb an air conditioner works if it is able to hold the temperature between 25 and 30 degrees. This one is actually lowering the temperature while working against the growing outside heat. The unit is extremely quiet. I have to check to make sure it is still running because I can't hear it. The only noise it makes is when it initially starts. I love the inverter tech on this unit. I hope this will keep my bills down. The controls are intuitive. I have not connected it to the wifi smart ap, nor my home assistant (I use Alexa)I really like the hose-in-hose design. I have one complaint with the unit. I am venting through a sliding window on the vertical. The adapter fitting for vertical installation is hard to use, and there are gaps in the adapter. I improvised with some painter's tape in covering those gaps. This approach is effective, but it is also unsightly. this does not apply for horizontal venting. This unit is attractive other than the gaps in the adapter plate. Even though I do have mild criticisms for this design flaw, I really love the unit and how effectively it works. Considering how portable AC units used to be very inefficient this unit shows how far the technology has evolved.

Could be nearly perfect but it joined the rest in the cheap window kit club
Can any manufacturer of portable window units actually make a quality kit? So far I love the air conditioner. It's quiet, functional, produces a top notch output of cold air. The app is intuitive and simple. Integration between the unit, remote and app are great.. too many manufacturers miss the mark with this component but Whynter nailed it. So... what's up with the window components? At the end of the hose where the plastic connectors meet the window sliders is where they fail. I understand why universal window sliders are not perfect and require my effort to best seal up and eliminate air leaks. But when your own components are crappy and cannot fit together well enough to not share the aforementioned issue, it's very unfortunate. In fairness, the several other manufacturers of portable units I have owned over years all share this struggle. Why can't the accessories ever match the expected quality of the AC itself? I would love a high quality replacement kit to be sold in the future, my experience so far says this AC deserves it.
